Iowa Young Writers' Studio

So, I totally started a FB group for Session 1.

EDIT: IDK HOW TO LINK TO IT

Okay, just search, ā€œIowa Young Writers’ Studio 2009, Session 1ā€.

Looks like there’s already a group for Session 2, too!

Are any of you guys attending the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio as rising college freshmen? I really want to apply next year and if I’m extremely fortunate to get in, I’m wondering if it’s worth it since I want to spend most of my time with friends before college starts.

it’s taking forever! i’m going to be a wreak w/ college admissions!

I’m in for Session 1! Sweet.

Muhaha, and I was missing the teacher rec. ; )

Kansasmom, your son is a lucky man. My impression are that Kenyon and Iowa are the holy grails of writing program but really they are all 3 fabulous programs. He cannot go wrong, no matter how he chooses. Aren’t some of the programs longer than others? I’d prefer a 2 week course over a 1 week course.

So I was fully expecting a decision letter to arrive today, so I was in a very excited state for my whole walk home. A few houses down from mine I gave up on patience and sprinted the rest of the way to my mailbox. I saw no large envelopes and my heart completely sank… But looking through them I saw that there was nothing there from Iowa at all.

I really hope I get a decision tomorrow. >.< I’m growing more nervous with every day.

^ What state are you in?

Mine has yet to arrive either.

I’m in California and mine still hasn’t arrived.

Idaho here. I’m closer and haven’t gotten anything. Don’t worry. :)

Thanks, heavenlyjane, it was a real boost for him and has inspired his writing. From what i could tell, Kenyon and Iowa both seemed to have great faculty, small classes, and great kids. I think he’s going to go with Kenyon. Both programs are two weeks; UVA’s is three.

I’m in New York and I have no letter yet. It’s driving me maaad. At least I’m on spring break now and I’ll be home when the mail comes tomorrow.

I’m completely with you MonkeeSox! I’m in NJ and I haven’t received a letter yet either. It’s making me nervous. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will finally arrive tomorrow!

I’m here to say-I told you all so.

Have fun where ever you are going. Looks like I get to find a summer job now.

God dammit.

O dear :frowning: That really sucks. Sorry, and good luck with other summer plans

uh oh…in florida and still haven’t received it.

you guys don’t think they send out rejections later, do you?
:/

No, they definitely don’t send out rejections later. I got mine today.

Have fun guys. :)

:( I’m sorry, guys. I’m really sorry.

This is weird. I STILL haven’t received a letter from Iowa yet. I think I’ll try calling them in case there was a mix-up.

just got my rejection. well, at least i was prepared and expecting (but still kind of hopeful…)

do you guys know if denison is on the same level as iowa? i applied to that as well and am wondering if i should just anticipate a rejection letter
