Hi, I'm thinking of majoring in biological science or economics and probably taking some business or pre-med courses as well. I will also be getting a laptop. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get an Ipad 2? Would I find time/need to use it? Would it be at all useful? Thanks

Alright, to not sound like a complete ass…
Why do you want an iPad? To take notes, etc.?

A laptop will do you much better - you can find some decent ones for the price of an iPad, too. You can do much, much more on a laptop than on an iPad.

I think the OP is already getting a laptop. He’s wondering whether he should get an iPad too.

In my opinion, I never found the iPad to be practical, so I wouldn’t consider buying it in the first place. Your laptop should be able to what the iPad can do, and more. I think you’re already set :)

the one benefit I see to an iPad is that you can carry it around anywhere, whereas a laptop might be kind of heavy to carry. if someone gave me a free iPad, I am sure I could make regular use of it, but I would not buy one especially for Cornell.

my D carries around her Ipod Touch which is like a small ipad. there is great wifi everywhere on campus so she uses that and leaves her laptop in the dorm unless she is studying or needing it for something.

I don’t think you will need one. Many kids have iphones now too. Just a more portable version of the ipad. And you will use your laptop a lot so ipad is kind of redundant.

iPad is a toy. It is fun to have when traveling, but not so useful in class. It doesn’t really support office products, not very easy to type, and there is no way to save a file to iPad.

^In comes jailbreaking.
