Now that the new Apple iPad has been announced (Apple's Jobs unveils `intimate' $499 iPad tablet - Yahoo! News) does anyone else feel a little unimpressed after the amount of build up that has been made over it? It just looks like a giant iphone

Plus I think the name is kind of dumb…

Yea, I agree. I want to actually test it out at an apple store to see what it feels like to use it.

Someone give me a run down of what it is.Is it a laptop and phone??? (confused)

It’s basically a really, really big version of the iPod touch.

I bet everyone associates it with stuff some women wear when they’re on their periods.

Stupid name.

This thread really ended w/ SaintSaens perfect post. QFM(assive)T.

Ehh… Seems to me like it’s much more of an oversized ipod touch than laptop or tablet PC. Though somewhat inexpensive, $499 for only 16 GB?

If I was to get it, I’d want much more features than just multimedia. I was hoping that the apple tablet would be more laptop than ipod. (Eg: Run a Windows Tablet style OS, and also have a multitude of other laptop like features. No Dvd drive and Hard drive is fine for me though.

I mean it can run flash or multitask, that just kills it as anything but an oversized iPod Touch.

I don’t know… If suddenly the next gen Ipod touch can multitask (which may be pretty likely) and run flash (possible I guess), then it still is an oversized Ipod.

List of features I would want in the apple tablet to convince me to buy:

-USB ports, HDMI output, pretty much all the ports that the macbook air has
-Camera/webcamish thing
-Windows style browsing (rather than the ipod/iphone interface) so you can ACTUALLY multitask like on a laptop
-The ability to install actually programs, like with a laptop
-Relatively quick, netbook-like performance (comparable to price range)

All with the 32gb model at $600-$700 max

I would like an

^^^^^^That is exactly what it made me think of :/

I thought it was going to be called the iSlate. Which in my personal opinion, sounds a lot cooler.

Yea I agree with bad-naming choice. Probably just trying to play off of iPod, but instead it ended out turning really strange and awkward.

I’m impressed that Apple can make a pun on itself, and have it be considered cliche and tacky

It’s the same price as the iPoT that I bought two years ago,but much much bigger, and does nothing more than being bigger…

The only thing making me sort of want this is the “Apple” factor. Admit it, the only real reason people buy most apple products is not because they’re really that functional or better than anything else. Rather, they just look really nice/stylish, have that initial “wow” factor (for the first 5 months anyways, while most people don’t have one yet), and you want to be the “cool kid” with the new toy.

Isn’t it kind of sad that iTouch 3G doesn’t have a camera yet the iPod Nano does?

Not really. It’s quite strategic for apple to not put a camera in the 3rd Gen Ipod touch. They easily could have done it, but they decided to introduce it into the nano specifically to shore up demand for the nano. The touch is already becoming one of the most popular ipods, and if it had a camera, even fewer people would buy the nano.

I don’t like it, but I like more app-developing opportunities at hand. :]
