IR Folks -- Summer Internships/After-Grad Jobs?

<p>Can IR folks post or PM their experiences about getting summer internships and IR-related jobs after graduation? Is the competition insane? Is there support on campus for finding these opportunities, or are students left to their own searching and contacts? Where do people go for summer internships? Are many summer IR internships paid? What about security studies folks -- are there internship prospects available?</p>

<p>Is it possible to get an IR-related job after graduation (though with the intention of getting a graduate degree within five years of graduation)?</p>

<p>Am looking more for experiences with the IR focus within the polisci major rather than IS majors, though am interested in knowing if there are substantive differences in the internship/post-graduation job hunt between the two programs.</p>

<p>Tacking on the CD’s question - I have another prospective student for IR who is wondering if Chicago is “too theoretical” for him. He’s more interested in IR as it intersects with environmental issues like global warming, but a bit scared of a department that doesn’t seem to offer many of it’s own courses. Trying to figure out how Public Policy, Political Science and International Studies work by looking at the catalog is very confusing!</p>
