Iranian Studies @ UCLA anyone?

Just wondering if anyone has applied to or plans on applying as iranian studies at ucla?

Please let me know and also ur stats?
Im thinking about majoring as IS, but not sure.

No, but i am a big fan or iranian girls.

Persian power represent.

Have fun if you consider this culture; it’s terrific.

iranian studies isnt what you think it is though…a lot of jewish iranian history mixed in…which is okay, but only if that is your thing.

dasherwinator - r u saying this through personal experience or just knowledge?

I dont mind it, but i would like to to be based broadly and not just the jewish part, but every aspect of it.

is this a new major or something?

naw, it has been around atleast for the last 5-7 years from my research. there are only a handful of schools that offer it, locally it is them and csuf, and then nationally it is harvard, stanford and some east coast university’s

Look up the classes here: [Schedule of Classes Home Page](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/schedule/schedulehome.aspx)
Seems like half of the iranian history classes offered are jew related, when that really is only like 0.5% of Iranian history. I don’t know why they dedicate classes to Iranian Jews.

i heard something like 78.45% of quoted statistics are made up on the spot.

i don’t mean to point out the obvious, but LA has a HUGE concentration of persian jews.
the demand for that type of study could be a result of that presence.

…LA has a huge amount of Iranians in general, regardless of faith.

And by the way, there is no such thing as a Persian Jew. Persian is an Indo-Aryan ethnicity, which does not apply to Jews. Iranian Jew is the correct term, as they were immigrants to Iran from Assyria/Iraq/Palestine/Arabistan etc. a few thousand years ago. Their nationality is Iranian, but their ethnic origins are definitely not Persian, they are more related to the arabs because they are semites.

Anyways, the point is, Iranian Jewish history is interesting, but I find it strange that there is an entire class is dedicated to such a minor part of the Iranian population. You are actually correct, I did make up that statistic. The real statistic is that the Jews are at the very maximum .43% of the total Iranian population: [Iranian Jews - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Iranian Jews - Wikipedia)

you do realize that the title of that wiki page is ‘Persian Jews’, right?

and you’re surprised at there being one entire, as in one single, class about iranian jews? unless that’s the only iranian studies class, i find it strange that you find it strange that there’s an ‘entire’ class …

Well, based on the fact that Iranian history is very vast, very long, and there is much to be learned, of course I find it strange, that there is a class concerning the Jews, which had very, very little to do with major Iranian events other than Esther. I find it strange that you find it strange that I find it strange there is a Iranian Jew class.

hahah

enough with this.
i like you.

lol thanks

I am also a fan of Iranian girls (ie my girlfriend), just to chime in. :)

interesting thread. . i would love to study iranian Studies if it is a well rounded education.

Great that ucla offers it. .
