Will it take a miracle for someone who scores so close but below than 1200? Is it possible that Harvard can take someone with that score? Or, only 1200 and above on SAT is acceptable for Harvard?

There is no cutoff score for the SAT for Harvard. However, with a score of 1200 (I'm assuming out of 1600), you have to offer something that a 1600-applicant won't have. In other words, give Harvard a reason to chose you over someone with higher test scores than you. If you can do that, you'll get in.

There is no strict cutoff, but yeah, it would more or less take a miracle.

If you have a 1200 and want Harvard, you need one of the three:
1) be really good at football (really good)
2) be native american
3) have a great legacy (4 generations +)

FYI, I know a Native American sports recruit with a 750 math who wasn't accepted to Harvard.

Frankly, I assume that one would have to be a big donor's kid, a nationally or internationally ranked athlete or have faced overwhelming challenges such as a major disability or being homeless to get accepted with a 1200 or below SAT. While adcoms say that it's unlikely that students with v, m scores of below 1200 can do Harvard work, odds are even longer than normal for students with scores in the 1200s to get in.

Certainly apply if that's your dream, but make sure that you put together thoughtful applications to match and safety schools that you'd love to attend.

What else do you think you have that would make you seem juicy to Harvard?

IMO gold medalist.
Olympic gold medalist.
Cured cancer and single handedly raises funds to support a village of 200 in Africa.

Hmm, those EC's would not even help a 1590.

Oh yeah and I forgot, be famous. Like really famous.

A hipanic girl that went to a school about 10 min from my house got in with an 1180. There was even an article written about her, which Byerly posted.

Can you give me a link to the thread where Byerly posted? She must have had something really amazing.

She lived in compton? That explains it. A 1200 is good from that area. She must have been through a lot!

Where I live a 1220 is good ( i really think I did better on the ACT though...scores not in yet). My school average is 989 and the county average is 1003 and the state average is 996 (for Florida). My counselor letter explains how my school has limited resources. My score is in the top percentile although nothing will state that but an assumption from the SAT Average. My school is rural...will that help? Will being Puerto Rican help as much as being native American since there are about the same amount enrolled at Harvard class of 2008? Come on...if there are 30 something Puerto Ricans total..how many really applied EA? Probably less than. I am also the first hispanic valedictorian at my school and I have exhausted ALL my schools resources...like they offer 12 APs and I took 13 with online class supplement. Online classes really show intellectual curiosity...so I hope they see how much I like to learn ....NOT how much I like to study for some test not related to my studies. Also my SATIIs are stellar for my area. I am the only one to take them. I got a 710 in Bio E and a 640 on math 1 and US History. I retoke them and I KNOW i did even better because I actually finish. Maybe a 750 on Bio E, 700 on math1 and a 680 on US History. I have STELLAR letters and I am quite activist in the hispanic community...recs tell story.

I am really worried about my chances. Will the condition of my school, the "stellarness" of my recs, and the rigor of my classes help my 1220??

what is the average SAT score for compton??

Well, you never know until you apply. Good luck!

I just looked it up the math average is 366 and the verbal average is 359 making a total of 725. Holy moly...I can see why a 1180 is REALLY REALLY high for her area! That makes my area look really smart!

Still will a 989 SAT average for my school help?

Thanks mathwiz! I really need some support here. I can only pray that my ACT and SATII new scores are better! especially the ACT!

The preponderance of your 479 posts have asked identical questions and you have not received a satisfactory response. Take that as a message and move on...

Apfreak if you applied early why are you still asking? If you didn't, what the hell are you going to do about it? Would you rather us tell you "don't even bother, you suck"? Because I'm fairly certain you would apply anyways. What does it matter what we think your chances are, if you've already decided to apply?
