is 18 credit hours too much?

i’m trying to take 18 credit hours in the fall because thats the only way i will be able to transfer from my community college to a university in time. im going to be a sophomore and the most amount of credits ive taken are 16, which wasnt so bad.
my classes will be:
Calculus 1 / 4 credits
Comp 2 / 3 credits
General Bio 1 / 4 credits
General chem 2 / 4 credits
Holocaust mem&lit / 3 credits
one of my friends took the holocaust class and said it was very easy and all they did was watch videos and it wasnt very time consuming. also i’m pretty good at bio and im assuming it will be okay since its only gen bio 1.i also have some background in calculus and studying for math and the homework doesn’t consume much of my time. what do you guys think is it doable? im already taking classes this summer and the next so i wont be able to take anything else then.

Well, it’s doable, but there’s a reason 18 credits is the upper limit and most students try to avoid taking that many. Remember, to transfer you also have to have a good GPA. Since I don’t know you, I can’t really predict how you will do. The main issue I see here is Chemistry, which is quite challenging for most. And if the Bio class is truly a college-level bio class, instead of an intro classs, it may be harder than you think. You can always enroll in 18credits and see how the first couple weeks go then drop a class if necessary. Does your school have a winter session? That could an option to pick up another class.

Its doable but as someone who did this I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’ve done something similar before and maintained a high GPA. I took five classes, ended up with 4 A’s and a B but the experience wiped me out and I wouldn’t attempt doing so again. Since your comfortable with bio and chem you might be fine but I would take the above suggestion. See how it goes the first couple weeks and drop if necessary. Keep the drop deadline before a W in mind.

chemisty has never been an issue for me i enjoy learning about it and studying it. it may be a little harder since its going to be chem 2 tho. i’m also taking a biological concepts class right now and i have a 97 in the class at the moment and i havent gotten less than a 90% so far on a test. no sadly my school doesnt have a winter session and also im not going to be in the country so it wouldnt even be an option :frowning:

I had a similar experience to heavenlyflower. I took 21 units one semester and it sorta killed me. I wound up with 5 A’s and 1 B, but it took everything out of me. I was so tired and stressed over exams. I even neglected one of my courses at first and scored a D on the very first exam. I was lucky that I was able to turn things around. Two science courses might be a bit much, so I’d like to join the group and put my vote in to test the waters first. Also, it doesn’t really have to be a race. It’s perfectly normally for some STEM majors to stay at CC for 3 years given how much prep is typically required - especially if they don’t have AP credits to help knock out some of the requirements.

18 hours of credit is a lot, they are exhausted. But if it is necessary to achieve success, then it is necessary.
