What do you guys think of this, for this fall?
Is 19 credits too rigorous?

What do you guys think of this, for this fall?

That's a tough schedule. All depends on how hard of a worker you are. How regularly do you study?

i would drop one of them, but if you think you can handle it...

Calc II and Art history aren't biggies in the list, but still...I'd be iffy about taking matrices, mechanics, and e&m in the same semester.

well.......u might be worried about ur arts..coz if u take it,probably u wont have time for it and will end up failing it.Talking from experience.Tried taking 3 General education classes together with thermo and diffeq....expecting B+ in thermo and B in diffeq, but got a D in psychology.

^^ same thing almost happened to me in music appreciation, except the prof didn't show up for the final so we all got A's

If that's your first semester, don't take that many classes. Just do 16 or 17 and drop another. 19 isn't too much for subsequent semesters but you don't want to just jump in headfirst like that.

Physics (Electricity and Mag.) and Eng. Mechanics together remind me of AP Physocs C, which took a whole year and was disastrous :D

this is my 3rd sem.

i heard the engl and art prof. are pretty easy.

is a 2 credit matrices class really hard?

it is not about the professor being easy here.Any physics, math courses require time. And arts require work also.U will be tempted to focus much on the sciences and neglect the arts and that can be ur downfall.U know what i mean?

Are there labs or required recitation sections for any of these classes? Do any of them have insane amounts of homework?

I took 19 credit hours one semester and had a 3 hour lab and a required recitation in addition to the regularly scheduled classes. One of the other courses had problem sets due 3x a week. I will never do that again...just spent way too much time in classes and doing homework.

matrices class is pretty easy, but I don't know if it's a good idea to do the two engineering courses in one semester...
you know what...why don't you just try it out and if it seems too much work you can always drop one or two courses before the deadline for dropping?

"Are there labs or required recitation sections for any of these classes? Do any of them have insane amounts of homework?"

cal(MTWF),
engl(MWF), and
matrices(MWF) are 50 min.

physics is 1hr 45 min on M W; on F its 50 min.

E Mch is 1hr 15 min (Tue, Thur)

Art H 1hr 15 min (Tue, Thur)

Any particular reason you're overloading on courses? Would it take more than 4 years to graduate if you don't? Just want to get ahead? Personally, I wouldn't do it unless I had to.

Unless Art History is required, I would drop it.

i think i would probably drop E Mch or Matrices.

Are you going to be a freshman? If so, you currently have no idea how many out-of-class hours you will be spending on those classes. Tech writing will require several papers and research, physics will have a lab and reports, problem solving homework will also be abundant in science, math, and engineering classes, art history may also require a term paper and other writings. I do not recommend freshman overloading first semester. Many engineering majors with excellent high school grades, high test scores, and several AP scores, and with egos laced with invincibility to go along with those, try it and end up dropping or withdrawing from classes, on probation at the end of the semester, going home for good after blowing the semester, or, God forbid, as psychology majors. Until you know what your capacity for course punishment is at college, you should stick with a normal load in the 15 to 16 hour range.

"Are you going to be a freshman? If so"

as I stated before this is my 3rd semester.

"in the 15 to 16 hour range"

dropping one 3 credit class puts me @ 16.

I recommend sticking to 16 or under, if you can still graduate on time. The lower level classes were easier to get better grades in, and now that I'm in my last year I'm really glad I had that better GPA in the beginning to balance out the tougher courses!

Also, you need to look into if your school charges extra per credit over a certain amount. I know mine is really crazy.

All the courses you listed are rather tough, whether it be the subject matter (calc, physics). Or time involved, like tech writing.

I've heard Art History courses have a lot of memorization involved. Do you actually need that course, or are you really interested in it? If not, I'd drop that.

The most credits I've done was 17. It was my easiest semester because it was a lot of gen ed stuff. My toughest semester was 15...go figure.

Asking upperclassmen at youir particular school can also help, but remember that ability to handle a certain number of classes will vary from person to person. I have some friends who take upwards of 18 credits a semester, and others who have a tough time handling more than 12.

After just completing a semester of 19 hours, I was fine in everything up until the final exams. 6 classes and 6 final exams. 2 each day for 3 consecutive days.
