Hi there, I'm going to be going into community college in the fall, and I've been obsessively planning my schedule for days now. I'm only worried because I'm EXTREMELY YOUNG for college (16) and I don't want to fall behind and pick up everything in a hurry later. So, for my first semester, I've picked 5 classes that equal 19 units. Tell me what you think:
Intermediate Algebra (6)
English (4)
Art History (3)
Introductory psychology (3)
And political science (3)
Is this too much? Please tell me because I have no common sense. I'm majoring in English for transfer, by the way. Thanks for your time!

You are very ambitious. You probably should find out first if all the credits can be transferred. Also, I would suggest you to take a little bit less in the first semester to get a feel, although those classes on your list are not really challenging.

Is the Intermediate Alg really a one semester 6 unit class? Are you sure it isn’t a one year class of 3 each? If so you would have 16 units. I would never encourage a first time college student to take 19 units. I think you should start with 4 classes. Thing is, usually the drop time comes too soon to gage your workload. When you have that many classes and mid terms and finals come at once it can be overwhelming. I have seen many posts by students who have crashed and burned by taking too much the first semester. After that first semester you will have a much better idea of the work load and if your study habits will support it.

p.s. I see you posted this in the Chances forum, you aren’t asking chances to get into any colleges…
