Is 3.5 good enough for anthro?

i have a 3.5 and trying to transfer to uc berkeley. i have over 200 hrs of volunteer work. i was the president of the club which i started, and have also joined other clubs on the side. Do you think i will get accepted to uc berekeley?

B.A or B.S? Will you have IGETC completed? What about your major pre-req?

Even in the best circumstances with completed IGETC and major pre-req, I would not bet my money on your acceptance to Berkeley. Try to bring up the GPA; you still have a semester to bring it up since fall grades will be calculated. Also APPLY for TAG to prevent a worst scenario of having to stay at the CC an extra year.

Some guy last year got accepted with a 3.5 and another got accepted to LA with a 3.22. If you write a great personal statement, you should have great shot.

As far as I know, Berkeley doesn’t accept students directly to their applied major. Instead the applications are evaluated with other students’ in a department or group of related majors and then once you enroll you have declare your major to officially be admitted into it. I say that because you specified your major as if you need a specific GPA for your major to be admitted.

The average admitted GPA to Berkeley in 2012 was 3.77, so you’d likely want your GPA as close to that as possible to be reasonably confident about your chances. A 3.5 with a strong personal statement and strong ECs should give you a decent chance though.

I say slim chance.

^Agree. They said it was a 3.7 average. Unless you can wow them with those essays. You might be scored a 4 (however they do those applications!)

Agree with SMCguy and ocnative, it’s not going to be easy. However, Anthropology is one of, if not, the easiest major to get into Berkeley with. The average GPA I saw listed for Anthro majors was 3.6 and the average GPA for CL&S is 3.7 something. Kill the Personal Statements!!
