Is 3.9 ( or 3.87 ) as my junior year GPA good? How much of an effect will it have if my senior year GPA and my final exams both have 4.0 UW GPA. Taken the most rigorous course load available at my school according to my guidance counselor.
Also, our school GPA system is a bit abysmal ( around 165 students in my graduating class from North Carolina. Studied British A levels )
We have pluses and minuses as well
A+ = 4.3 points
A= 4
A- = 3.7
…
So, for instance, I have 3 A + , 2 A. my calculated GPA would be 4.18. But still, it is not given as 4.18 / 4.3 . but 4/4
If I have a 3.9, it is given as 3.9 / 4 , not 3.9/4.3
Is this system common?
Also, I heard that A+ and A are treated equally?
Could anyone please answer these queries?
Thank you !
Yes, it’s good. Colleges will usually recalculate your GPA to suit their needs. Your grades are your grades, and you are splitting hairs. If you’ve taken the most rigorous schedule, that will work in your favor. Relax.
Obviously it’s a good GPA, but in reality it isn’t quite as good as most 3.9’s, because it’s unusual to have A pluses, which actually makes yours a 4.3 scale.
Yes, your grades are excellent. You can focus on the rest of your application.
@sherpa : It’s unusual to have A pluses? I have never heard of that.
In my kid’s experience, the A+ grades were always granted a few additional points as is the case with the OP. The transcripts reflected the same.
I know some schools will not record the (+)/ (-) on transcripts, even where the interim and semester reports show the differentiation. Is this actually the more common practice?
