So im about to start my senior year in two days, and it seems like this time in a year i get so stressed and regretful that i have to come to this forum for some heat warming advice. I took no honor classes freshman year because i was still adjusting to english as my second language. Sophomore year i believe i took 3 honors classes. Junior year i took two Ap with the rest honors. This year im taking 3 Ap classes which will consist of AP physics 1, Ap computer science A, and AP gov and regular calculus and lit. I originally planned on taking AP calc Ab but since i took precalc over the summer for a total of 6 weeks most teacher and the Calc teacher specifically suggested that i wasn’t ready(so i droped that thought). Also, thanks to my great literature teacher last year, i took on level literature this year because “there is no such a thing as an AP Lit for seniors”. And quite frankly now its too much of a hassle because i would have to do my 2 summer reading books somehow if i took it and im not even a good reader nor do i enjoy reading. Now the question becomes that is a selective school like UGA or maybe even Ga Tech(i know its a reach) accepting of students with only 5 ap classes throuoght high-school. I look at some other seniors and many have 4 AP’s and that makes me depressed. Im also on the grind to do my Act for the second and maybe even a third time in my senior year. I have been studying so hopefully with my third time the latest in October i should be stuck with a good score so that i can submit my application with regular decision. Help me, im panicing…again
Ps- i have a near perfect gpa. Like 3.996 or 3.96…i forgot
Your GC can tell you how your course of study at your school will be rated in terms of rigor. Ask if you are taking the most rigorous curriculum and if it’s going to be so designated.
Have you taken the SAT or ACT yet? Those scores will figure heavily in your competitiveness for selective schools
What is your math plan?
- Repeat precalculus?
- Take no more math in high school, then take calculus in college where it will go at a faster pace with less hand holding than AP calculus AB in high school?
You may want to try this quiz to see how ready you are for calculus:
