I'm having trouble deciding between Duke and U Pitt. I didn't get any merit money from Duke and I don't qualify for financial aid. But I got a full tuition scholarship to U Pitt. I will be double majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Economics, with a Pre-Med emphasis. As of now, I'm leaning towards U Pitt. Can you guys give me some reasons why I should go to Duke? Duke is one of my dream schools and I really want to go there, but I'm having trouble justifying the 50 grand. Thanks in advance for you help!

As much as I love Duke, Pitt is a great school and as long as you keep grades up you will have plentiful opportunities after college, especially med school. No reason to spend the 200k if it isn't needed.

Yes, Duke is a great school, but U Pitt isn't chopped liver. That money you save by going to U Pitt will help you pay for medical school.

Same question here. Some UC and local University alternatives with $$, but no "full rides".Do you know if you can double major those two at Duke? seems someone addressed that recently.

They also have a great honors program and IMHO is one of the most UNDER-rated schools out there (Pitt, that is). In all things related to medicine it's top shelf. Our S felt the weather was a big turn off, however.

you most certainly can double econ and bme w/ premed. it'll be difficult (esp with the premed) but i know of a lot of people who manage it. is that worth $200k though? that i don't know...

thanks for the input! I've been struggling with this decision for a while. And it seems that everyone thinks Pitt is the right choice. I hate to give up Duke, but I have to think eight years ahead, and not just four.

This is a no-brainer to me. In four years you will thank yourself. Remember, you can also transfer if it comes to that.
