I’ve taken it three times. Two 12’s and one 11 on the writing portion for me.

I’ve taken the ACT 3 times and haven’t gotten less than a 10 (10, 11, 10 respectively). All I do is read the Princeton Review the night before and do the exact same thing the Princeton Review says based on the prompt. Hasn’t failed yet

P.S. - I use EVERY SINGLE LINE on the response sheet
P.P.S - While my writing score is in the 95th - 99th Percentile, I only have a composite of 26. I need tips to get my composite up to a 28+ especially in Reading and Science.

I don’t really understand the essay part either. My son has a composite 34 ACT however his essay part was an 8. He also got a 5 on the AP english exam. On the SAT he ended up with a 2150 however his writing was only a 620. I think part of it is writing isn’t his thing and also they are looking for certain kinds things in the essays. They must look for different things on the AP english exam. I’m just glad the colleges he’s applying to look mostly at the reading and math parts.:)

Both times I took the ACT, I received 10s. I consider myself a decent writer, but I wrote a really strange essay the first time. The prompt was whether or not schools should release nutrition facts, and I said yes because for all we know, they could be feeding us worms. I ended the essay with “Do you want to be the one eating worms?” My assumed score of 5 on the essay turned out to be a 10! Woo. I don’t remember what it was the second time, but I remember not being confident

Oh might I add, I had like 8 sentences per paragraph (5 total) and a lot of caffeine. :)

schools require the essay, but honestly they don’t care what you get on it. Like everyone gets an 8 lol

7 and then 9 on writing portion. Their grading methodology must be skewed–I’m not the only one who’s a fairly decent writer not doing awesome on this. I wouldn’t worry about it though; the writing section isn’t crucial to the app…

Source: 5 on AP English Language Exam. 710 on SAT writing. 34 on ACT English.

I got 11 on the essay the first time.

11 first time. Really liked the lack of a page limit and open-ended prompt, got a 10 on the sat essay

I always thought 10s were common because both times I’ve taken the ACT (I’m waiting for the results of my third now) I received 10s. Also, I got a 10 on the SAT writing. Unfortunately, it brought down my English ACT score to a combined 33, I believe. I got a 35 on English the second time. I got a 5 on AP Lang and a 4 on AP Lit, so it seems to me that really talented writers would get around 10, as 11s and 12s are much less common.

4 on AP English lang. 11 on SAT essay. 8 on ACT (although still waiting for October)
