Thank you.. ^^

i wasn't being racist when i told my friend being black would help her get into yale.. but she got mad at me anyways.

obviously you have to be smart/talented to get into ivy league schools but it is a documented fact that it helps.

my college counselor in high school told me not to bother to apply to cornell-like schools with anything lower than a 1300. Although they look at the applications holistically, there has to be some kind of cutoff-point with all the applications they are looking at.

if a 1200 is not considered low for Cornell then what is?? Not trying to belittle OP or anything but since when has a 1200 been considered competitive?

I find it annoying that everyone thinks Cornell is easy to get into or within grasp just b/c there admissions is holistic and test scores aren't everything ....just the other day some clown lol was comparing Cornell to Rutgers...like are you kidding me?

1200 is low but not low enough so that his chance is 0. if you look on the stats there are people in the 1200s, assuming he meant out of 1600. id say chance of 1200 sat + intel/westinghouse winner is not low.

unless you are a recruited athlete, i'd say look at other schools. there are many other good schools, but cornell is really hard. there is a reason why they want students with 2100/1400+ SATs.

Some truths are inherently offensive.

As for the 1200 (assuming out of 1600), it's not really competitive but it certainly shouldn't stop you from applying. You might need some strong differentiating factors to go with that... Cornell would be a reach, but not something you couldn't accomplish.

1200 is at the low end of the range at Cornell for a recruited athlete in a target sport (one in which Cornell thinks they can compete on a national level).

More often than not, yes, it is too low to get into Cornell.

If you're a candidate that is not upto par in an area, it is not advisable to apply ED anyways. Use the extra few months to retake SATs and such.

There are other test out there other than the SATs. My SAT score was low, but I made up for it in taking the ACTs and put myself right in range for Cornell's scores.

how about an 1800?

Our school (very large, suburban, New England with 23% accepted at Cornell over the last 4 years) has these stats posted:

Test / ave. applied ED RD / lowest accept ED RD / ave. accept ED RD
1600 / 1395 1363 / 1250 1240 / 1468 1373
2400 / 2062 2041 / 1800 1890 / 2160 1910

I think the perceived racism arose when he/she asked if the low score was because he was black/jewish or whatever else.

What was really intended was if he were a URM and that could possibly counteract the low score.

But I agree, a 1200 is low for anyone. You need something spectacular or different in your application to get accepted with. Like being homeless or something, haha.

Last year January admit from our school:

M:600
CR: 510
No real hooks beyond AP course load
92 GPA

Another kid regular Sept admits
CR 620
M 520
GPA 95 accepted

Same class year:
M:700
CR: 770
GPA 96 - denied

So again, nothing is a guarentee, but 1200's do get in.

they had to have something else. i don't really believe that a 1100 can get into cornell without the other things we have been saying.

^^ seriously that is even outside of the low end of the SAT range...there is no way cornell can remain 12 on USNEWs accepting scores like 1100.

Keep in mind that samiamy is a parent..so she may not know as much as she thinks she knows

an 1800 is the same as a 1200

Not always....(700+600)+500

yeah but the 700 doesnt make up for the 500

i didnt say it did just pointing out that a 1200 doesnt always equal a 1800

well zainuu asked about it on the page before
