Is A 1200 Too Low To Get Into Cornell?!?!

First and foremost, we look at your high school record, the rigor of your coursework, your grades, and your rank-in-class (don't worry if your school doesn't rank -- that's quite common). The personal application you write (essays, extracurriculars, etc.) is also a very important piece of Cornell's selection process. Standardized testing plays a role, but probably not as much as you think. From there, we rely on a lot of tools that can't be quantified: recommendations, for example, and interviews (required for architecture and hotel applicants). Since all of these pieces help inform our decisions, we can't point to any master chart of GPA and test scores and automatically tell you what the decision will be. And frankly, we like it that way, because it allows us to learn as much as we can about each of our applicants.

Ugh great, I am so glad we got a response from someone who is NOT an adcom let alone a Cornell Student...Like what are you talking about...your a senior in High School..while i admire your attempt to break down then process thre is obviously no merit behind it b/c 1. your not an adcom and 2. your not a cornell student ....btw who is we?
"we look at " "we rely on " "our decisions" "we like it that w"

What it comes down it is you are competing to get in against thousands of other stop students. A 1200 is going to put you in the lower percentiles. Stand out in other ways and you have a decent chance. But with a 1200 I can't say your chances are "good." It will certainly count against you on the application since they compare you to other students. Hopefully other aspects of your application balance that out. There certainly are people who are accepted though with even lower SATs. Just realize, that a vast majority of people with that SAT score who apply will be rejected.

ixjun.......my post is cut and pasted off the cornell website. the "we" is cornell.

honestly, I'd shoot for at least 700 in CR and Math just to be comfortable...though I know a 200 point increase is difficult. My brother went from a 1380 to a 1590, though, so it can be done.

samiamy is NOT a parent, I am a senior, have stats of the approx 600 students in my school district,3 high schools, middle class average high schools those stats I posted are geniune admits from the class of 2007. Yeah AP students Im sure, some with perhaps research behind them, maybe INTEL/Siemens but no semi finalists in that group. We don't weight our classes beyond AP and only if an A is obtained.

oh ok...you mentioned in one of your previous post something about having a daughter....my mistake then

"GC at D school, when reminded of a 12/1 deadline, daughter got "Oh I forgot" do you want to mail it? Found out MANY of her assigned kids(small school she only has about 40 seniors, about 20 wouldn't even be sending major things out) had missed deadlines because of her "forgetting". After that, I told D to go and get sealed transcripts/rec letters/school profiles with school seal on flap, and we did them ourselves."

yeah my mom posted that
