Hey guys.
I received a 26 on my june test (with some prep and first time taking) and i’m studying over the summer for the sept test.
I received:
-Eng: 30
-Math:27
-Reading:23
-Science:23
I was wondering if it is even possible to jump to 31-32? I’m planning to do at least 5 ACT tests every week and i’m also trying out a free speed reading course online (i’m not sure if it will boost the reading scores though).
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
My advice would be not to kill yourself with 5 full-length practice tests every week. I personally would burn out if I did that… You can do all the practice tests in the world and it won’t make one bit of a difference if you don’t properly review them. Not only review your mistakes, but take time to think WHY you are missing questions. Then, most importantly, HOW you can prevent those mistakes from ever happening again. This takes time and practice and possibly research. My point: it’s unrealistic to take a 4 hour test and review it almost every day effectively.
What worked for me (and maybe you): I spent one week per section, starting with my weakest. I did an individual practice test once a day and then reviewed it. I put in full effort! Then, I wrote a few bullet points on what I need to do better for next time. The next day I took a new test and focused on those strategies I made the day before. I improved! I kept doing this and by the end of the week, I felt so great about my once weakest section! (It actually surpassed my strongest section) After, I moved on to the next section and then the next and the next.
Maybe working sections individually won’t work for you, but it did wonders for me! For endurance, you can throw in some half-lengths and full-lengths, but those should be to refine and check that you did your work right in your previous weeks of prep.
NOTE: I got my score from a 28 to a 32 and now getting close to my goal of 35 Good luck to you!!! You can seriously do anything you set your mind to
Thank you for your advice. It was helpful. I’m going to start reviewing more like you said as i also feel like my scores are stagnant. BTW good luck on getting that 35!
