How come I have applied more than 80 positions on Callisto so far, only get one interview?
Really frustrated now... BTW I am an econ major looking into consulting, financial analyst related jobs. Anyone has the same situation like me?

Did you apply to the Big 4 like I mentioned in your other thread?

annoy the hell out of companies. Follow up with phone calls. Find other companies and ask to speak with alumni and see if they can hook you up.

Yes, unfortunately 3.34 is pretty low for finance jobs. Don’t give up though. You still have several months before you graduate.

I don’t think the OP is interested in accounting.

Perhaps be more realistic and apply for smaller companies etc? Then you can do lateral transfers later. Generally BB and MBB take 3.7+ only.

Also, I think perhaps you should try polishing your resume/cover letter. Cause that could be a problem too…

If fall recruiting doesn’t go well, start looking for an unpaid internship during the year and recruit again in the spring. Even if you graduate in the spring, do the internship and try to get an return offer.

I would venture a guess to say that 3.34 is probably around the average.
Problem is, with this economy, not many businesses (especially the big ones) want/are willing to hire the average college student.

Don’t know if that’s completely true. Just spitting stuff out.

Nah, it’s not like the company will suddenly be interested if you change your GPA from 3.34 to 3.74 or whatever. I applied to 50 companies with a higher GPA and I only got 1 rejection letter. I have to assume most of them are not even looking at my resume.

If you really think GPA is the reason why they’re not hiring you, just delete it.

Otherwise, edit your resume so it’s neater and more appealing, etc. And of course, as Ankur1521 mentioned, it’s more effective to directly call them or talk to them in person.

B+ average isn’t necessarily low, but compared to the people who with at least A- averages you are competing against for finance jobs… it may be a factor.
if you can’t beat your competition in the GPA race, then you’ll have to one up them in networking skills, work experience, ECs, and a genuine “passion” or “interest” for your career field. good luck.

For finance jobs, do you have to put your GPA?

^ Yes, they ask for GPA and sometime even SAT.
