I got a 3.4 GPA my first semester year as a freshman, but I took 3 honors classes, is this still a good GPA for an ivy college?

If you are applying to an ivy league as a freshman in high school, then no.

If not, then it’s hard to tell because no one can anticipate your performace in your sophomore and junior years from the information you have given us. Colleges don’t break down your gpa for every year of high school, rather, they do so for the combined grades 9-11.

Assuming that gpa is unweighted, the maximum gpa you can achieve from now to the end of your junior year of high school is a 3.9, which is still competitive for ivy league schools. Keep in mind this means that you are earning straight As for the rest of your high school career, but you’ll be (hopefully) taking harder courses.

With that being said, you’ll be exposed to many other experiences throughout high school that will plausibly change your college plans, so don’t worry about it. Enjoy your freshman year of high school and start thinking about college in your JUNIOR year.
