I am about to start my first semester at a private university in the US but the price is killing me so I have been thinking transferring to a school in Canada. But when I talked about with some people I get mixed reactions. Some say I should go to Canada if I get accepted since the price is good and the quality is good. Others are telling me that many employers in the US look down Canadian degrees and I should only go to Canada for school if I plan to work in Canada. I’d like to get some outside opinions.
There is a range of universities in Canada as there is in the US although there are no extremes in terms of quality. Canadian universities are accredited by US based professional organizations in most fields of the US accrediting agency recognizes Canadian accreditation as equal to its own.
McGill, Toronto, UBC and Queen’s are well regarded.
Keep in mind that except for the Ivies and the Sports Illustrated top 25, most Americans know little about US colleges other than their state flagship.
