Is a full ride possible?

Hi, Is there any 4 year colleges that I would have a good chance of receiving a full ride to. I currently have a 31 ACT and a 3.8 GPA. I would like them to be in the Midwest or east. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Not many options in that geography. Only Howard University.

Increasing your ACT by 1 point would help you get full tuition at Temple and Purdue.

More options in other areas of the country are listed here:

If I apply to colleges with low average act scores, like a 21 or 22, will I have a chance?

Check their websites to see what scholarships they offer. I think you will find several that offer smaller scholarships but not many that offer a full ride for a 31. The ones that do are on this list (http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/).

Do you know if you have a chance at being a National Merit Semifinalist? What is your PSAT score?

I did not do very well, around a 180

Have you considered a service academy or an ROTC scholarship?

You also need a 32 ACT for full ride at Howard which is now also competitive rather than automatic.

FYI a 32 won’t give you a full tuition scholarship at Purdue U in West Lafayette. Post #1 refers to a satellite school in Fort Wayne I believe.

Complete full rides are out there…but are not particularly plentiful. Are you saying you and your family can’t contribute anything towards your college costs?

If so, go,to,the local community college. The $5500 Direct Loan, and earnings from a job will get that cost paid as a commuting student.

ETA…a full tuition scholarship will leave this student with $10,000-$15,000 in additional charges for room, board, etc.

I don’t understand that second question at all. Do you have a 31?

(S)he’s asking if (s)he has a chance at a “full ride” at a school with average ACTs of 21-22 if (s)he applies with her/his 31 ACT and 3.8 GPA.

The answer is…maybe.

Someone with an ACT 31 won’t probably like attending a school where the avg ACT is a 21-22 unless it happens to have a high upper quartile.

What is your situation?

What are your parents saying? Are you saying that they won’t pay ONE DIME?

Are they low income?

Take the ACT again! A 32 will mean more merit. Also take the SAT.

If you are very low income, its possible to get a very large portion of COA paid for by schools that meet 100% need. Google for a list of those schools if in fact your family fits that profile. You’ll most likely still have to pay your EFC plus, somewhere in the $10,000 range even for the poorest of poor. With student loans you would still need savings of upwards $5000, do you or your parents have that saved?

Yes sorry, I got Purdue and Temple from http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com, but apparently that site is very dated as neither of those are available anymore.

The Temple change just occurred. And IPFW is NOT Purdue.
