As the title says, I have an A- (end of year) in AP Computer Science, and my teacher is refusing to let me do any extra credit work. This may be the only A- I get this year (sophomore), and last year, I got an A- in Honors Algebra 2 (but I have an 107% in Honors Precalculus this year).
I plan to apply to colleges like MIT and CMU, as I plan to major in CS and AI. I don’t know if this is important, but I am also going to take AP Computer Science Principles (PLTW course) next year. My schedule for the next two years will definitely be rigorous enough, as will my extracurriculars (I hope), but should my A- in AP CS be a major issue?
Don’t worry about it. How do you think you did on the AP test?
It’s. The A- won’t make a difference admission wise.
Congratulations to your teacher for not deviating from the grading scale. Colleges don’t have extra credit assignments, not do employers. So welcome to the real world.
An A- will not break your application. If MIT or CMU or any other college rejects you, it will not be because of a couple of A-'s, IMO.
@snowfairy137 I probably got a 5 on it; it seemed very easy. 34 probably on multiple choice and perfect score on FRQ (possibly).
@skieurope @Bobbybob444555 I understand that colleges/jobs don’t have extra credit, but thanks for the “reassuring” answer that it won’t break my application.
Yeah you’ll be fine. It’s not like you got an A- and a 2.
Apologies, I forgot to add a concluding reply.
So yeah, I got a 5 on the exam. I’d be feeling more proud of myself if I hadn’t gotten a 3 on AP Statistics, which was my only other AP this year. I did end up with an A- for the year, but my GPA only went down to a 3.93. Averaging with my GPA last year, I have a 3.95 so far.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
