I want to major in computer engineering and get a minor in computer security. Is this too much of a work load? Has anyone done anything like this and have and pros and cons?

Depends on how much you’re willing to work. If your aim is to party and get by with the least amount of school possible, don’t bother. But even people I know who party hard have minors. It’s really not that much more work.

Thanks! Im really thinking about it. There is alot i would want to do so having a chance to at least do some more of it would be awesome.

Adding another Major or Minor is always going to be more difficult with Engineering. This depends a lot though on how many credits you are coming in with and how much of an overlap there is between the two programs. I’d look into it on the school’s engineering page.

Also does a minor add alot of cost on. I mean of course it will cost more but like how much. It also depends on what your minor is but lets just say generally.

Generally though, a minor is a great way to get a little extra specialization in a field that may get you hired - computers being an excellent one. Since you’re probably looking to trim your degree around your chances of getting hired (not my personal choice of education, but there’s nothing wrong with it) a minor in something like computers is probably a good one. You can always tell a potential employer that you have a minor in computers and it may help your employment opportunities. And like some other people pointed out, often there’s overlap between related majors and minors, so it may be less work than you think.

Your minor looks like a good one for your major. If you’re serious about it, go for it.

If you want a job in some sort of computer security company then yeah getting the minor makes you look better on a resume.
