I love math and would love to major in it, but may want to go on to med school or dental school. Does it put me at a disadvantage being a math major? I was also thinking of Chemical Engineering. These 2 majors interest me most (along with Chemistry, which I will probably end up majoring in if Math and ChemE are not good ideas..)

No not at all. If anything its a plus (assuming you do well with a 3.6+ GPA).

Nope not at all. Math is great, anything is great they really don’t care. Just be sure that you take all your premed courses: 1 year bio, 1 year chem, 1 year orgo, 1 year physics and then some depending on individual schools. Some upper level bio is recommended by most schools but it should be completely manageable.

Mathematics majors tend to have the highest scores of any group taking the MCAT.

I have a D going through the application process this cycle who is a math and physics double major. Her majors caused her GPA to suffer, but she scored very high on the MCAT–so maybe that’s the trade off.

math major checking in. It definitely isn’t a DISadvantage, but make sure you love it because it can take a toll on your GPA if you’re not careful. Good luck!
