Math major for pre-med student?

So I'm premed, but I've always loved math, so I'd like to major in it. I know its uncommon, but would it have a negative or negative effect for when I actually apply to med school in a few years? Would it be okay of I did major in this? Any other advice? Thanks!

BOTH my daughters were math majors in college. Both were accepted into med school. One is finishing up her MS3; the other has already been accepted for fall 2014.

If you like math and are good at it, go for it!

Majors have very little, if any, impact on your ability to be admitted to med school.

Also a math major offers better job prospects than do chem or bio degrees should you change your mind about med school or not get an acceptance.

FWIW, as a group math & statistics majors have the highest average MCAT score of any group applying to medical school.

Case closed. Major in math.

One of my colleagues started out as an engineering major then completed a math degree in order to graduate in 4 years. She is an Obgyn now. She doesn’t regret her math degree at all.

Also, please see the Resources sticky thread at the top of this forum for links to threads about majors for premeds.

Thank you all for responding!
