Hi, I'm currently majoring in Actuarial Science and thinking about getting a minor in stat because:
1) I heard stat gives you more options for work so if I failed those actuarial exams, maybe i will have more options for other jobs?
2) Also if i failed those exams, i can go to grad school (i've always wanted to go to grad school) and get a MS in stat.

Or do you guys think a minor is not even useful in the future?

Since actuarial science already entails quite a bit of statistics, a minor in statistics would probably not add much to your experience, although it might add to your resume. You can certainly go to graduate school in statistics without a minor in the subject.

UIUC’s act sci program already includes some econ, finance, and stat classes for VEE credits. so i need to take like 4-6 more stat classes for a stat minor.

You should actually be able to get an applied stats minor with a single additional course (stat 200 or 212). The other requirements are identical:

Math 415
Stat 400 = Math 408 + 409
Stat 420 = Math 469
Math 471

You can probably wiggle your way out of Stat 100 for the statistics minor because that’s a very basic intro to statistics course. After 408 + 409 you are overqualified for that.
