I've been going to a private all girls school (the best in my city) since the start of middle school. I may be transferring this September, but when I do, I'm looking at schools that cost double the school fees I have now (which is not cheap by the way).
So I was just wondering, do you think this expensive education really helpful? Afterall, if I had always gone to a public school, the money my parents would save could pay for any college I decide to go to.

put it this way its worth alot more than college because if you dont have a solid academic foundation in high school you will never get into a university or college of your choice. therefore you will never get to be able to pay for college. paying for boarding school is a small chunk of money when you think about it, and the foundation that a student will gain at a private school will last them there entire life and may be the turning point or difference maker in there life

the fact that you actually CARE about how much money your parents are putting into private school is heart-warming… and rather rare, from what i’ve seen, hahah!

it really depends on whether the private school in question’s a great school, or if your local public’s a great (or decent, or good-enough) school. i mean… the price of some prep schools, let’s use brearley as an example; 30k+ a year… you could buy a good, brand-new car every single year for that money! but then again, imho it’s money well spent, because it’s unlikely you’re going to get a better education anywhere else (figuratively speaking, of course, no one challenge me about andover vs brearley, because that’s not the point).

in many ways, i think it’s useful. good private schools around here have more motivated students (as a whole), they have after-school sports teams, more funding for art programs, better facilities… i’d love to get away from my local public, which has overcrowded classes, virtually zero extra-curriculars, and a completely dead music/art department, but i just don’t have the $. each public/private is different, and i’d weigh the pros and cons.

just out of curiosity, if you already go to the best school in your city, then where else is there to go? :S a boarding school? (not getting into specifics)

Hey Dive i care alot how much money my parents are putting out for my schooling. I even worked in the summer and throughout the year and i have given my parents about $5,000 toward the tuition. Tuition is very expensive man and there is a recession going on so you got to help as much as you can.

@ DiveAliveMy family are moving abroad, so I’ll either become a boarder at my current school or go to another private school.
I only know a few people that have gone to Ivy league universities and other prestigious places (probably because I am an international) and some of them went to a huge public school where I could’ve gone.
