Is a SAT score of 2160 enough for the top colleges?

Just got my scores...800 on math .....720 on CR .....and 620 on writing( got an 8 on my essay) .....should i retake the exam?

Edit…640 on writing

What schools are you looking at?

Check the common data set and see where you stand. Remember that the SAT is just one part of your application.

Writing is the least important of the scores.

@mnm111‌ i was thinking of some Ivies,Stanford,Caltech,MIT…but i guess they would be far reaches for me…Should i retake it?

@bopper i have heard many people say that but many colleges do consider…can I appeal to CollegeBoard if I feel my scores are wrong?..I expected a near 800 on writing…I managed 750+ on almost every mock test I took …so a 640 is kinda unbelievable…that when I felt that my exam went very well

Are you a junior? If so, retake if this was your first SAT. Have you considered the ACT?

@mnm111 nah…i am in 12th…it was my first attempt…and i’m international and ACT is not offered in my country as far as i know…thanks though for the advice

Any reason to think you will get into such competitive schools like ivies, MIT and Cal tech as an international student? You’ve run out of time to take the SAT again. How did you do on the SAT subject tests which are required by many of these schools?

How is the rest of your application? GPA, ECs, etc…?

Those are terrific scores, and the Critical Reading+Math is what many colleges will look at first. The colleges you’re looking at have brutally competitive admissions, nevertheless, and are reaches for everyone. They reject many students with comparable test scores. Yours demonstrate that you are academically competent, but will not guarantee you entry to the most selective schools. You should certainly apply.

@mnm111‌ @woogzmama‌ In my 9th and 10th I was in the top 10%…in my 11th and 12th mid terms I topped…I am a national level tennis player,I have led my state team for 4 interstate nationals and have won nationals at U-18 level…I am expecting 800 on the subject SAT’s(math2 and physics)…i mean I have scored full on all the mock tests I have given…my letters of recommendation are excellent…while my personal essays too are I guess powerful…

I don’t think I really have much of a chance at these…but I believe that I have a chance at universities like UIUC,UT Austin,UCLA…not Berkeley though…I would love to get a scholarship, but I could manage without it

Do i have a chance at these?
