My daughter is leaving tomorrow to go back to school from spring brk and I wondered whether I needed to stay up all night to fill out the css profile in case it needed a student signature on it.
Also, as anyone working w/ css of late, it has been buggy and I havenot been able to get through it because of problems with it. specifically, the tax loading info.
He must be thinking of the FAFSA website, which uses the Data Retrieval Tool. The CSS Profile is a separate document provided by the College Board which has no data retrieval too.
Is IDOC a part of CSS ? That is , as part of doing CSS, do you also do IDOC ?
Implied question on CSS - as with FAFSA, it the submission entirely electronic / online?
IDOCs is manual / paper / USPS - correct? in which case, an analogue signature is required , right?
CSS has a feature to upload a pdf or jpg file of the 1040 tax form, and then it is supposed to programatically read the tax form , picking off the values in the correct slots of the 1040 form and then loading CSS financial info from the tax form - like FAFSA , but not directly reading the IRS repository of data.
I found that this feature has not been working for me since css has been turned on. I upload the tax form file and when I click preload, it freezes and kicks me out.
I have sent an email to css tech support and no answer yet. my guess is that they are working overtime to get things together
(1) Once the CSS is submitted, your acknowledgement form will provide the information you need to access IDOC.
(2) Yes, CSS is submitted electronically. (If you need to correct it later, you’ll have to print it out, correct it by hand, and submit the corrected form directly to the college - there is no mechanism for the electronic submission of corrections.)
(3) No, IDOC is now submitted electronically . . . unless you prefer to submit by mail, which remains an option.
(4) I’ve never used this feature and am not familiar with it. I’d suggest you just enter the numbers manually.
The only signatures required are signatures on your tax forms themselves - so if they were submitted electronically, print your daughter’s out for her to sign before she leaves. You’ll need that available when you do your IDOC submissions.

There are multiple methods to help you easily get your U.S. tax data into your PROFILE application:
Upload your U.S. tax form and the data will be read from your U.S. tax return and saved into your PROFILE application
Fill in an online form for U.S. tax information that will save the data into your PROFILE application
If you don’t wish to use either of these methods, please select “I don’t have a U.S. tax document” and click the Save and Continue button.
Note: At any point, you can return to this menu to upload/fill in your U.S. tax forms.

Required for institutional aid. Before you begin the application process, we suggest you gather the following materials: 2014 federal tax returns, W-2s, records of untaxed income, and asset information. To expedite the completion of your PROFILE we encourage you to use the new tax document upload function when prompted. By uploading your tax document, answers to many of your application questions will be automatically populated for you. "
I wonder if the Profile instructions can be different depending on what school or schools will be receiving the form. I have looked everywhere and can’t see anything about uploading tax documents to help fill in some of the answers.
Edited to add: the sign in page that you linked to is not the same one that I have been using. Here is where I sign in:
my daughter is a returning student. I noticed on the first yr student link on our college’s page , it linked to the one you had, middkid86. Are you a 1st yr or returning student?
The Profile form is the same whether the student is first year or returning.
Try using that first year link on your college’s website and see if you can sign in with your previously used username and password. If you can, see if you can find anything about uploading tax documents.
