I am a current freshman undergraduate student at Saint Mary's College of California and i do not enjoy the school for a variety of reasons. I am looking into transferring but i am afraid that my poor performance in high school will hold me back from doing so. Do you think it is a possibility to transfer to a school such as University of San Diego with the following grades and test scores?

High School GPA: 3.0
ACT: 26
College GPA: 3.75

Other information with me includes that I am a first gen college student

College counts much more than high school. They’ll look at high school but your performance at the collegiate level is just a better indicator of your ability. A 3.75 GPA is great, you should definitely be able to transfer to a very good school.

Another concern i have is the financial aid, i have heard that transfers don’t get much and sadly financial aid is the reason why i was forced to go to my present college. How unlikely is it to get enough financial aid?

It would u fortunately be hard to get much aid. There’s little merit aid out there for transfers, and colleges that meet 100% of need are looking for higher ACT scores.

If you are a CA resident and your family income is below $60K, your best bet may be to go to a cc next year and then transfer to a UC junior year to take advantage of Blue and Gold so that you’d only pay room and board.
