Hi. I was hoping if someone could shed some light on admission to Information Systems.

The GPA/SAT/Class Rank seem to be among the lower end of CMU's programs, but the admission percentage is around 20% (quite a bit lower than CIT, which has much higher stats).

Is it generally believed that the IS applicant pool is just slightly less competitive than other programs? Or do they look for something besides just core stats (personal qualities, etc), justifying the 20%.

Thoughts?

It’s an anomaly…

The pool is large and the number of spots very very very small.

It’s also a backdoor for those who perceive another way into CS which is not really true. In the end, those who decide to attend aren’t really cs-wannabees (they go elsewhere) and the pool is what it is.

It’s a great program – kinda combo of CS/Business-- but not really either. Very skills based. Great employment prospects.

Thanks for the reply. So, I guess my question is… How does one view Information Systems in terms of admissions?

Is it seen as a difficult program (admit percentage) or one of CMU’s easier programs (admit stats)?
