Is an 800 on SAT2 Writing a rarity?

Are many people applying with 800s on writing? Im saying this because I didnt do too hot in my junior year honors english class because the teacher was a nazi. Does raping the Sat2 writing help?

I know two or three people that have... its not like a 800 V on the SAT I.

if you can write a realy good essay, the MC part isnt too hard so its not that hard to get an 800 on the SAT II writing... and also, most of it is grammar so the stuff you learn in accelerated english classes doesn't really apply

my brother got a 760 on his first try without having any advanced level english courses all throughout high school

I don't think that a perfect score is a rarity. I got an 800 on my first try and my high school sucks. Nobody here has even heard of the SAT 2. And our english classes are far from being "advanced level."

I don't think it has much to do with english class. Idk but I havent learned grammar since seventh grade.

Journalism courses seem to help... my friends who got 800s were all in journalism. All that grammer and correcting stuff.

Our maid got an 800 and she doesn't even speak English,

My cat got an 800.

now THAT is a rarity.

Foundnemo's feline got a purrfect score.

is an 800 on the verbal SAT I really rare , 2 ppl in my grade ahve them (me and 1 other person) and i kno someone from the year b4 who did too, i thought they were pretty common considering i sdont come from a great school....

god.. dont take it as a joke. i agree 800 in writing isnt as big as 800 on verbal, but still be proud of it. not many people get it.

Hmm. I got 800V on SATI twice, and 80s both times on the PSAT Verbal, but my PSAT writing skills scores were 76 and 78, and on the SATII WR I got a 780. I think different skills are involved. Is the 800V really that uncommon? I'm the first at my school in a few years, but it's tiny (senior class of 47), so that's no surprise.
What about 36s on the ACT English sections? I found it a little irksome that I missed two verbal ?s on SATV, but still got an 800, but missed one on ACT Reading and got a 35...

yeah, it's widely accepted that ACT's are harsher (esp. to get perfect) because the curve is so hard. Sometimes when u miss 1 u drop 2 points... insane!!
Also, I hear that reading comp. for ACT's are more time constraied than SAT's. Also, ACT's verbal is more grammar whereas SAT I's verbal isn't.
Wow... so many people getting 800 for SAT II writing so easily!

EllenF - har har, aren't you a clever one : ).

OP - I wouldn't say it's rare. According to the score report (which i think is based on 2004's grad class) an 800 is 97th percentile. A 800 on SAT verbal, on the other hand, is 99+th percentile. However, many of the top colleges specifically request this test, so having an 800 in it can only help you.

Remember that in most schools (except for CA), only the top kids take SAT II's. So a 97th percentile within this select group is very good indeed. Congratulations!

A corollary of that statement is that lower percentiles can be attached to decent scores-- for example, a 600 is more than 90 pts above the nat'l average on SAT I math, but on Math II C, it's about the 25th percentile!

I got one, my friend got high 700s. I'd also noticed that my 800 was only 97th percentile, which led me to believe that the section seemed really easy because it was. But hey man, how many people know that? Play it up!

I got an 800 on both the SAT I Verbal and the SAT II Writing (and a 36 on ACT reading). /end bragging :p It didn't seem difficult to me, but English is just "my subject" - like how math or science may come easily to someone else. And believe me, math is a struggle!

I second nobleguy05's assertion that "Journalism courses seem to help... All that grammar and correcting stuff." I'm an editor for my school newspaper... When I was taking the multiple choice portion of the tests, I sort of read each possibility aloud in my head to figure out which one "sounded" correct, based on my experience editing. Good luck!
