I got an 800 V and a 770 W. The MC on writing was an 80, but the essay was only an 8. I gave what I thought were three strong, well-developed examples. Did anyone else have such a drastic discrepancy?

I had MC 80 and an essay 10, so not as drastic. But I still got an 800 on writing, fortunately. I actually had two mediocre (well.. 1 fairly decent, 1 crappy) examples and didn't really expect to have any chance at the 800. A 10 and an 8 score could actually be very similar, since 9s occur only when scorers disagree, which ideally would never happen anyway.

I had 80 MC and 8 essay and got 750. It was SAT II Writing, though. Wait, do they combine raw scores? (meaning all 80 MC are not equal)

Just to provide some additional information . . .

My daughter coupled an 80 MC with that rare "9" essay for a 790 WR. She was surprised by her 9 essay score -- she had previously received a "12" in the March 2005 SAT, the top possible essay score in SAT-II Writing, and also the top possible essay score on the ACT with writing. She's happy of course with a 790 WR, but anything close to her normal essay score would have landed her the 800 WR since it seems an 80-10 is an 800.

the essay is weird. i got a 5 on the march essay and an 11 on the may essay :D

i got a 61 on the may MC and with the 11 essay thats a 650... i wish i had the MC skill you guys have, thatd be an 800 right there :D

I know how you feel taffy I have an even greater discrepancy, 12 essay, 59 MC for a 650. I really wanted to get 700. I hate those dreaded "as is" MC answers.

I didn't really mean to suggest that 9s are rare, theyre certainly not.

I don't understand why there are so many people getting, for example, 61 MC and 11 essay. I can't believe I got an 8 and an 80 MC. I take AP English and I've gotten A's on every essay this year except 1 (Not grade inflation.) I guess I just do better on MC tests with a time limit. I have bad handwriting, and guess I spent too long trying to make my essay legible.
