Is an associate's in accounting worthless without any experience?

I'm middle aged. I was thinking of getting an associates in accounting from a community college, but I don't want to waste my time. Is it worth it to get an associate's in accounting job wise without experience? I don't plan to continue to a bachelor's afterwards. I'd really like to know before I waste anymore money and time.

I don’t think it’s completely worthless. NOTE that if you have no plans to go on to get your bachelor’s then look for an AAS program and NOT an AS (more accounting classes and less general ed/liberal arts classes). Also you have to know that the best you could do with an associate’s in accounting is bookkeeping and/or basic acct. clerical work like acct receivable/payable processing and so on. Jobs are out there (depending on your location) and salaries can reach up to $40,000-45,000/year with experience. Good luck!

OP, what are your plans to do with the Accounting Associates degree then if you don’t plan to work in a bookkeeping or clerk role? What’s the point of getting it especially if you are middle-aged, which I assume is 45?

I’m in my 30’s. I would be ok with bookkeeping and clerical work. I’m underemployed and am looking for a full time job. I figured I might as well do something in my spare time.

It’s not too late to get your bachelor’s IMHO. If you’re dead set on not getting a bachelor’s, then an AAS isn’t really that bad.
