Is an ipod touch worth the investment?

Apple is very good at marketing :)

If you are buying it right now, no it is NOT worth the investment.

Hold off until this fall (September). Apple will be releasing their newer iPhone(s) and newer iPod Touch.

I have the first iPod Touch that came out and I still love it, but if you can, wait a little bit before you buy anything. If you want it for school/college, you can always order it online while away and have it shipped to you.

EDIT: Once Apple releases this new mp3 player with all of the newer/upgraded features, other companies will then release similar products, possibly with a lesser cost (think iPad vs. now the PlayBook, Android model, etc.)

The newest 4th gen iPod touch is still worth it.

It can be a GPS outside of buildings. It can use nearby routers to triangulate your position if you’re out walking in the city somewhere. It can be a phone via facetime or other phone apps. It can text. You can check your email/everything internet-wise. It can be a gaming device no matter what type of gamer you are (angry birds or call of duty). It can be your alarm clock. It can be your calendar. So versatile!
If you jailbreak it you can access almost any app for free. Just shhhhh

Just get a nice smart phone. That’s the best investment you can make.

^agreed.

I use my DROID X for everything. Phone stuff, plus email, internet browsing, ■■■■■■■■ CC, alarm clock, music, etc. Etc etc.

Also, before you throw money at Apple, seriously look at the alternatives. Chances are you’ll find something just as good or better and cheaper. Also you’ll be an individual, and people seem to like being those.

I got my touch off of ebay for $100. 16 gig.

DON’T BUY IT! Yet, wait until September, Apple updates all their iPods on September. Getting on now will be useless. So save up money now, wait till September and get an iPod Touch then, you will get a much better deal. Apple did that last time, by offereing more memory for a cheaper price. Get a 32GB or above, it will last you longer. I made the 16GB touch, and now 3yrs later I’m out of memory, so I’m waiting till Sept to buy the new one. Also, if you really won’t be able to save up cash until then, wait till Sept and buy the older model for a cheaper price online. But you have to be quick, they will be out of stock quickly. iPods are a gateway product to other Apple products, so next thing you know you will have an iPhone or a Mac next.

In my opinion buying a $100 ipod touch and $200 headphones is a far better investment than a $300 ipod touch and cheap headphones. This is about music after all and what’s music without sound quality.

Better off buying an Iphone.

Don’t get me wrong though, I have an ipod touch that I use for music, video, e-books, games, internet…etc.
But I wish I had just got an iphone, so I could make calls, and get 3G.

Or even better yet, a used 4gb sansa fuze off ebay for $30, a 16gb micro sdhc card anywhere online for $20, and then get serious headphones. Put rockbox on it and you’ve got the cheapest, most efficient and easy to use portable music box you can buy. If you’re really looking for a mp3 player, do this. If you’re not, and you’re looking for a portable entertainment device, of course you should get the iTouch. But if you’re not going to use those extra features and wifi and all that blabla that your phone can also do, don’t get an iPod touch just to listen to music. I recommend the cheap audio player + spending most of your money on headphones. After all, headphones contribute probably 90% of the sound quality when hooked up to a mp3 player. Nowadays, almost all mp3 players have around the same sound quality. The $30 sansa will sound as good as a $100 iPod.

definite yes.
to me, its a no-brainer.

i’m using iPhone 3Gs and iPod 5G 30GB atm. Worth every cents spent!

The problem with the iPhone is that its on limited networks (At&T and Verizon), it can be used on T-Mobile but you won’t have 3G and will have to pay the unsubsidized price. if i’m correct Apple plans to allow the iPhone on more networks, mainly T-Mobile because a large amount of users on that network use an iPhone.

Get the touch, but wait until September. They may come out with a refreshed iPod Touch and iPhone.
