Is an out-of-state school worth the extra $80k or should I go to Michigan State for CS?

You still have a chance, though not a high chance or good shot, at UMich LSA. As you said, GPA 3.7 is the main problem. Have you considered transfer to UMich later? There are even guaranteed transfer from other campus. If you have applied to UMich AA, the application fee to other campus can be waived.

@billcsho Which schools offer the transfer programs? I know UM Flint and Dearborn, but it seems like I’d get a better education transferring from MSU.

It does not matter where you transfer from. It is better to get a good GPA and have guaranteed transfer.

Just make sure that every class you take has an equivalent class at UM. The transfer office has documents for most of the major state universities for class equivalencies. You should be able to work off that for you class selection. During your first 2 years you will be taking a lot of intro classes no matter which school you attend

@Alexandre HEY MAN JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW I GOT IN!!! THANKS FOR PULLING FOR ME IT MEANT A LOT!!!

Congratulations!
Will it be affordable? Did you get your chosen major?
:slight_smile:

Congratulations arudelic!

@MYOS1634 Yes I’m going to study computer science!! And yeah estimated cost of attendance is ~28k a year so it’s wayyy cheaper than the OOS schools I applied to.

That’s awesome :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

Congrats!!! Always fun to learn about these kind of results!

Not worth it. Did you consider Michigan Tech? Ah, see you got into Michigan! But if you want another in state affordable CS option… :slight_smile:

You get in?

@ReubyRose Yeah! I’m ecstatic!

As a computer professional, I would highly advise against paying more to go out of state. Even if you get a slight bump in salary, your student loan payments will more than nullify it. Technology is highly diverse and your degree only teaches the rudimentary basics. The real education comes from being on the job. I graduated from a liberal arts university and I had no trouble finding a tech job out of college. You don’t want to start a 50k job $100,000 in the hole.
