Is an Undecided major Beneficial?

Being a college freshman next semester, I still don't know what I want to major in and therefore chose the Undecided major. I have an interest in Biology but am not sure about declaring a Biology major just yet. My first choice of major is Undecided and second is Biology (I'm deciding whether to switch the two). Will choosing to be Undecided waste one's time in college because others have already chosen their majors and have a head start?

undecided is a shi*** thing!!!! My sister regrets going undecided becasue she said that all the people in her major (actually it is also biology...lol) are doing all of this big research stuff when she is just trying to meet the requirements of graduation. She said that the decided majors who come in as frehman have such a good experience! They learn a lot more to (in the area of study)! My sister goes to Northwestern and loves it! So if I were you....go with a decided Biology major especially if you want to do some kick ass research projects as well as internships...(my sis is going to med school after undergrad) so she was going to do some sort of internship for a hospital in Chicago but Northwestern didnt let her b/c she didnt have enough credits to even think about graduating!!!!!!!!! Shes a year and a half behind all othe rbio majors! Good luck!

To address the otherside of being undecided,

You'll have the opportunity to explore all different course offerings and maybe discover an interest that you never knew you had. Freshmen year, you're typically taking general requirements set by the school. At GW, for example, you won't be taking a lot of upper-division major requirements until late second/early third year.

You should really research the school's undecided program. Will they help you find your major or will they expect you to find it on your own? What does the curriculum look like? Is there flexibility in the requirements? Remember, not all schools are alike...
