Undecided major, a waste of time?

Being a college freshman next semester, I still don't know what I want to major in and therefore chose the Undecided major. I have an interest in Biology but am not sure about declaring a Biology major just yet. My first choice of major is Undecided and second is Biology (I'm deciding whether to switch the two). Will choosing to be Undecided waste one's time in college because others have already chosen their majors and have a head start?

Undecided the first year is no problem. Most people change their majors 2-4 times or so...

Just make sure you're picking courses in your first year which INTEREST you, so that you can choose from among them or rule 'em out for something else.

Undecided isn't a major you graduate with, unless your Tucker Carlson. It simply allows you to explore all of the options. Most people lose the undecided sticker during their first or second year.

You're probably AHEAD by not choosing a major. I'm willing to bet you've only been exposed to a small fraction of the majors offered, so why limit yourself too soon? Many colleges don't even allow freshmen to declare majors.

at one top school, 30% of this years admitted class listed 'undecided' for their major.

Don't worry. You have to take a buttload of classes unrelated to your major to fulfill your college's breadth requirements anyway. Just don't put off exploring during this time. :)
