Is anyone a fan of the FSU Dance Team (The Golden Girls)? because,

I am going to be a freshman at FSU next fall!! I am very excited, and now that I know I am going there for sure, I have another concern!

I am the captain of my high school's dance team right now, and in the spring, I really want to try out for FSU's Dance Team! The only thing is, I have never seen them perform in person, I have only read about the squad & seen youtube performances.

What does everyone think about the FSU Dance Team? Extremely prestigous or not so much? I just want to know what I'm up against when I go to tryouts in April!

I saw that six Delta Gamma Sorority girls are on the FSU Golden Girls dance team Office of Greek Life

So this professor runs it? Suzanne Farrell

the fsu dance team is really good, like extremely good, they always say there one of the top teams in the country.

Suzanne Farrell is a true prima ballerina, having danced for Balanchine at NYCB. She is a Professor of Dance, teaching upper level ballet to majors, although she is not in residence in Tallahassee. I don't believe she is involved with the dance team.

She is a tenured professor at FSU: Kennedy Center: Biographical information for Suzanne Farrell

and

The Kennedy Center

I can say with 100% certainty that Suzanne Farrell has absolutely NO association with the FSU dance team!!!!!!

wha t are the cahnces of making the team for 09

The current team is comprised of 23 girls, 8 of which were rookies and 5 are freshman. There are 7 current seniors. Given there might be one or two that stay for grad school (and not leav) eor 1 or two that drop that are not seniors, they will probably be replacing another 8ish girls. The rookies won’t all be freshman, so my guess is that they take another 5-6 freshman. The team is historically 20-25 girls, depending on the distribution of scores at the end of the tryout weekend. Even current dancers have to re-audition. I do not know how many turn out to audition. I DO know there are alot of girls who go through the weekend who are not auditioning. They let you pay and go through the process as a nonauditioning participant. There are HS girls who go through the process as a dry run, and others who go through it to learn the choreography to take back to their HS team. I think there may also be some freshman who go through the weekend who are NOT ready to apply for this year, who want to see if they can handle their freshman year first, but want the experience of a dry run. So when you get there and see the numbers, they are not all actually competing against you for a slot.

GOOD LUCK to your D, and your D will LOVE FSU. UF is overrated and their dancers DO NOT COMPARE to FSU’s. Really.

my daughter tried out and did not make the team. Does anyone know how many made it and how many actually made it to the interviews on Saturday night? There was a young man who was trying out and he was a strong and creative dancer. I’ll be curious to see if he made it. He was really talented as were a lot of the girls trying out. My daughter is now looking into Kollage - does anyone know if Kollage is the best fit for a dancer who likes hip hop and jazz the best? Thanks

D has a somewhat talented sorority sister who did not make the team, and a very talented friend who will be enrolling as a freshman who did not make the team. I was surprised that her friend did not at least make it to the final cut–lots of dance and drama experience, and a real “light of the stage” kinda girl. The competition must have been fierce. I can not yet locate any press release or list of the final team for 2009-2010. I will post a link when I do.

I do not know anything about Kollage, and neither does my D, but I will try to find out.

Thank you. I think that many of the girls trying out came from some of the best technical studios and many had national competetion experience. The Golden Girls are not for the weak at heart! My daughter has a friend who tried out at UF - they compared dances and try-outs. FSU was more difficult across the board - the dance, the actual try-outs (UF had a night to sleep on and get extra practice after learning the toughest dance). FSU learned the tough dance, practiced together for about two hours and they tried out in groups of two. I’m guessing that some of the girls auditioning picked FSU based on the Golden Girls! I’ll be eager to see a press release. Thanks!

looks like they took 13 new girls well one guy! Guess they wll havge t ochange their name
