Is anyone doing the highlander first lecture for CHASS?

I started reading Economy by Henry David Thoreau from Walden, but I'm not sure if I have to complete the discussion questions in depth with paragraphs.. Also, does anyone know if the on-line quiz is available? I looked in the assignments folder in the iLearn site, but the folder is empty.. The syllabus says to take the quiz before orientation and I only have a week left..

The heck? I am a CHASS major but I never knew about this…So, where is the syllabus located?

The syllabus is located in the R Web > iLearn. I found out about this from an email in Rmail and the orientation site where it says: Highlander First Lecture-CHASS ONLY. I only read 2/29 pgs so far…

I checked the assignments folder again and the quiz is there now… I should get back to reading the material…

Interesting. Im a CHASS major and I see no email referring to this, or a link via iLearn in blackboard… so I can’t tell if you’re ■■■■■■■■ or not. =_=

Did you guys check on R’mail?

I got multiple emails about this but the latest one was like this: A quick reminder: Before you come to Orientation - you need to look at the Highlander Lecture Syllabus, read over the discussion questions and Thoreau’s Economy (in the Course Materials), and take the quiz (in the Assignments Folder).

Have a great fourth of July and see you next week.

Hmm… my course says that I am enrolled in the Highlander Orientation Lecture (7/8) so I guess I got this earlier than others who have their orientations at later dates…

You get the e-mail as your orientation date approaches.

I have yet to receive an email about the Highlander Lecture but I bought the book (And yes, I do know that there is a document on iLearn but I like having a physcial book to read in hand. Plus, I want to finish the reading.)

You should read all of the material, because there will be a lecture, discussion and quiz with one of the professors in CHASS, so it will be a good first experience/introduction to what college lectures are like.

Oh boy… I took the quiz without reading everything and skimming most of it and I got 60/100. But this doesn’t affect anything right? Like I wouldn’t be in jeopardy of anything because I did poorly, right?

From quickly scanning the instructions, I think you are being graded. So, it does affect you. Should have just read the chapter.

Guys, they just do this to scare you. You’re not enrolled in any classes, so how can any grade affect you? whatever they grade you on during orientation, it will not go on your transcript.

So, I basically don’t have to put forth my best effort in this?
(This is my first summer in a while that I did not have to do any summer work for my upcoming class. I wish to enjoy it without many worries, such as more reading.)

yeah lol. i didnt do the reading (i, and half my orientation, didn’t even know about it) and we’re all fine. I’m going into my second year btw. it’s really lame that they try to scare us all like this.

YESSSS!!!
Okay, cool.
I do want to read Walden…maybe later.

so we don’t have to read it for reals right? i read 12/29 pages and i am like screw this… i don’t wanna read soomuch right now… i want a break…

I mean its pretty interesting and all but i am slow reader and its time consuming… my orientation is on monday…

I feel you…But I have yet to read beyond five pages…But what about AP scores? When do we send those in? I know it said the final date was the fifteenth of July, but an admission counselor told me AP scores are an exception. So, just send them in before my orientation or bring the scores I received in the mail to orientation?
