With so many people posting their spectacular stats, does anyone else get a little down that they don't have these ridiculously impressive grades, scores, EC's? Don't get me wrong, I don't think my stats are doo doo, but yeesh. Anyone else feel this way?

haha, i know what you mean. My average this year for my first year was 3.65, and by almost anyones standards thats amazing. Well, the people here are not just anybody, and many people here are doing better. It needs to be taken into consideration people on this site are probably the more driven people. So its not average people showing their stats (and 3.65 aint average either). Hopefully though since I wan to get into UCLA or CAL I will lbe more motivated through seeing others stats. Knowing what the stats of those you are competing with for spots at top schools helps to know better what I need and how to perpare. Good luck for everyone out there trying to get into their DREAM SCHOOLS!!!

Tell me about it, I'm hopefully on my way to ending my first year with a 3.79 and I'm still a little anxious. Everyone else I know around me has like 3.1-3.3, but here I am worrying. DAMN YOU CC!

I'm probably one of the impressive people you are talking about. Nevertheless, I hope I don't come across as all that intimidating. GPA mongers and application fluff pros are human just like all of you.

yeah, not only that, but i get discouraged from eiven botehering to post because everybody is so eager to jump on my a s s about my spelling/grammatical errors (and my english is pretty freaking good)....there are just some snobby/arrogant people all over this site.

i was under the impression that anyone who wanted to get into UC BERKELEY needs at lesat around a 3.5, but my friend at dvc tells me that he has friends who got into berkeley with around 3.0's-3.3's.....and their majors aren't even so easy...one got into political science at berkeley with a 3.2......

c

I definitely felt that way when I was applying the first time around...but I still got into my top choice, so don't let the boards get to you....remember, its a self selecting group of people who post on CC :)

Well for those of you wanting to go to a UC, a comprehensive review is required of all applicants. So don't be discouraged if your grades are subpar. When UC regents rescinded the ban on affirmative action in 2001, students with "hardships" were given special consideration. So don't be afraid to reveal yourself in the essays if it's genuine. UC's, including Berkeley seek people with "human qualities" rather than people who are most likely to succeed academically. Many people disagree with the new UC standards, but thems the breaks. Milk it where you can. :D

EconMajor08, good point. I didn't see how posting my rejection from UCLA would help. Actually, CC was the last place I wanted to visit on the net, besides the application response.

It puts you into perspective :D, you have an idea of where you stand :D
great forum :D

I agree with Newbyreborn, but I also agree with you guys. That's why I have stopped looking at what are my chances? and evaluate me type of threads. It is just ridiculous how talented some of these kids are.

CC is filled with a lot hyper-focused overachievers and their helicopter moms and dads. (okay, i'm probably one of the latter.) i actually read one post entitled something like "where do average kids go?" and it was started by someone who's SAT scores put him solidly in the upper 10 percent of all test-takers. I gotta believe, though, that colleges don't want to fill their ranks with all of the same types of perfect score, perfect GPA, perfect resume kids. would make a rather boring class, don't you think?

Discouraged??? You guys are discouraged by this board??

I find myself extremely elated **by reading this forum. Not only are the scanty stats of the people here **encouraging, but the entire absence of intellectual talent has entirely allayed all my anxiety I had about applying.

As an aside, my overwhelming, categorical superiority cannot be fettered by human language. Sophomoric attempts have been made; adages like "The Best," and "the Supreme Being," have been used to reference me. Yet, these phrases only intimate the extent of my overarching, incomparable, and baffling greatness. I will respond to those who address me by using these vulgar utterances, but I do so begrudgingly. Be sincere in your shameful humility, and I will in turn do my best to resist my ever-present desire to thwart the insignificant affairs of inferior beings.

yeah... what he said.
