Well, you could go with the Indonesian Schooling I suppose; after all, it it was good enough for Columbia University and eventually Harvard Law. However, the point was to discourage emphasis on past experience in determining the credentials of the various candidates. You can be great, with or without past elected experience. I go on to say that, imo, political experience is somewhat detrimental because it often leads to corruptness.

The most useful analysis of past experience is just to determine whether or not a person will be able to make good judgments in the future, and I believe Barack has demonstrated that ability most satisfactorily. It's not about the quantity of experience, it's about the quality.

Is it just me or is Hillary a bit harsh? She just seems so scary and determined..and man-like. I mean when she cryed on television It was such a big deal and I think it was because ppl were like " So she actually has a soft side?"

Why would you say that if Hillary became president, Bill would run things? That doesn't make sense.

What does she know about being president? As much as all the other NEW presidents...She is kind of "man like" (if by "man like" we mean "strong woman") so it's not like Bill will be running her.

Also, there are a lot of arguments that is Obama gets the nomination, McCain will win because many will vote based off race, etc. Agh, another Republican. Agh.

that is a disgusting argument. i also hate when people ask, "is the country ready for a black/female president?" *** DOES THAT MEAN?!?!?!? does it simply translate to "is this country too ****ing racist and intolerant to elect a president that is not a white male?!" omg, god that offends me so much.

i really really really really raelly hope someone chooses bill richardson as a running mate :D I LOVE BILL RICHARDSON!!! he's the only candidate who kind of matches the beliefs i think i have

439whatever....kevin's argument should not disgust you. It's a reality.

Whether it offends you or not, the truth about this nation is that there are quite a few racist people still living here. Did you know the KKK is still a functioning organization? The reality is, this country may not be "ready" to elect a president who is not a white male. In noting this reality, kevin is in no way being racist, but rather, rightfully acknowledging the racists in America today.

Despite my unwaivering support for Barack Obama, I am from the Midwest and have personally seen several speak out against the man, either for being black or for being Muslim. (as everyone here probably knows...Barack is not a Muslim, but too many people are making this a big deal. Gah, there's nothing even wrong with being Muslim in the first place, whether Barack is or isn't. I wish America could learn a little tolerance.)

Anyways...a few kids in my government class decided to go to the mall and ask people what they thought of Barack Obama, just to see how different people would respond. They reported that most of the younger people knew he was running for president but not much more. Most of the middle aged people were semi-well informed. And most of the senior citizens knew everything about the man. However, they also reported on two separate occasions did senior citizens tell them that Barack should not even be able to run...because he is black. (Also note that seniors have been the hardest age group for Barack to win thus far. Not at all saying that all seniors are racist, but some are.)

It's offensive and disgusting. However, kevin isn't one of these people; he's just saying that these people exist. He's right.

(Watch the Steve King video statement about Barack if you haven't already. Now that's disgusting. And he's a congressman!)

the argument that this country is not "ready" for a non-white male absolutely disgusts me because it's just an EXTREMELY sugary way of saying "this country is too stuck in the 1700s" for a non-white (protestant) male president. "ready" is such an OFFENSIVE, INAPPROPRIATE, LIGHT term when applied to this idea that i have EVERY RIGHT to be disgusted. who are you to tell me what i should and should not be disgusted by, anyway?

btw i don't disagree with kevin anyway, i just hate the phrasing... "ready"... blegh.

Next, you shouldn't be disgusted by someone acknowledging racism. By arguing that America is not ready for a black president, one is simply saying that racists in America are too prevalent for such a thing to happen. This argument is not disgusting within itself; it very well could be true. I get what you're saying about the word "ready" being too "light," but I think getting caught up with the phraseology is pointless. Everyone knows the implications of "ready" and racism. Euphemisms and political correctness just control our society.

What should disgust you is not the argument, but rather, the fact of racism that allows the argument to be true. Don't get caught up in the nitty gritty.
