so, I'm applying ED to Brown, and they say that your Toefl requirement is waived if you have 600+ on the CR section of the SAT. so I thought it won't be necessary for me to take the Toefl....well...at least not now...(maybe in dec after I recive my ED decision).....but will this affect in any way my admission process?
in other words, has anyone decided not submitting their toefl scores?

no .. ur admission decision is not even touched on by a stupid TOEFL score

how many of you have actually given the toefl, and if not given, do you plan to give it????????

Ok well I'm Korean but I've been living in New Zealand since like I was like 7. I am waaaaaaaay stronger in english than korean. And I can't remember which schools (i think one was duke), but they told me that I still have to take the TOEFL because my first language is korean. That's friggin stupid! I go to an english speaking school! and i have english speaking friends! and i watch english speaking tv! and i read english speaking or i guess reading, books!
But NO i have to take the TOEFL.

I hope I'm not sounding bitter because..well.. I know I'm gonna ace it.. I'm still gonna study for it (maybe like for a week or something) but I'm bitter about the money to take the test and to send it to all my friggin colleges (i heard it was really expensive). hahaha i was couting how many SAT prep books and 'how to write college essay' books I had on my bookshelf, and i have 31 of those books! and i haven't even used half of it. My parents just keep spending so much money on these useless stuff and i dont want them to spend money on useless TOEFL as well :(:(

Yeah so I'm gonna have to take it

but if it says the toefl requirement is waived(for Brown).......is it for sure I don't have to take it?.... cause now...I'm not that sure..... :-?

yes..it is given on the website also....... check the internation testing requirements page

ok...well..that's it...I'm not taking it till winter.... :)

I also took the TOEFL because not ALL of the ones I'm applying to waive the TOEFL. (And my SAT CR was 730.) GRRR. It's bloody expensive. US $104 or US $140...one or the other. How often is the TOEFL available where you live? Cause if you don't get into Brown crossing my fingers for you that you do, you might still have to take the TOEFL for your back up schools and I don't know how long it takes for the results to get to them.

But no worries. If you got above 600 for CR, I'm sure you'll get 250 or more for the TOEFL CBT.

I didn't submit Toefl for any college I applied last year.

well singaporeans in general do not need to do toefl but i have no idea how it is for romanians... is it possible for you to find out from romanians who applied previously to us colleges?

iam giving TOEFL on nov. 25t...i couldnt find any earlier date...is the date kinda too late to give TOEFL??

Guys, if you need to submit the TOEFL and you're taking it that late, don't worry - they will most likely wait for you to submit your TOEFL score until early Februrary, so chill out!

is it actually necessary to study for the TOEFL? I mean, how hard is it really? I've been speaking english since I was like 4, and all of the courses I'm taking at my school, except for spanish (duh), are given in english. I guess I wont study.....( I'm sick of taking uselss tests) lol

If you've studied for the SAT, you should do just fine on the TOEFL. The one area where you have to be careful, though is listening as sometimes sound quality might not be that good.

also you might space out during the listening... a major prob with me!

cool but as i have heard most of us are really at ease when it comes to toefl. I took a couple of practice tests and scored near a 260-280 . As per what i have read a toefl score freezes at 260+ and gives no merit thereon.. so i may safely conclude it is of little use........and with little practice anyone can ace it

The TOEFL is very easy. Yeah, you don't want to space out during the listening....it's very tempting, but hopefully it won't happen to you! :D It's VERY easy...like...8th grade English!

Nov. 25th isn't too late, unless you're thinking of applying ED/EA...

good to be back, folks! :)
so.... as far as I know I can take the test aproximately whenever I want to....meaning the CBT in Bucharest....think so( I wanted to take it this summer and there were available like 4 days a week or something like that) .... anyway I know I'll most probably have to take the toefl, but I'm not taking it untill I'm 100% sure(meaning after I receive the ED decision from Brown) .

That's around December 15th, right?
ED deadline is Nov. 1 or 15th?

nov 1st-deadline for ED.
aprox. december 15th for ED results.
