well, it's not like the school profile is that bad....I mean we are condidered the second high school in our county(ALBA), but most of the kids here work by themselves, because teachers aren't at all interested in teaching in school, they only care if kids go to them for extra-classes(I don't really knw how to call them), where they work in with groups of 2 or 3 and they can charge really good money....so yeah...that's all they think about. "so what if you're good at something, why should I help you?" (I so hate their mentality!!!!)

I keep reading that you don't have to take the toefl if the language of instruction at your school has been English for the past four years or longer...Even though English is not my "first language" I take IB English A1 HL and have a predicted score of 7...so my counselor just told me that i don't HAVE to take the toefl, I listened to her and at that time I was to lazy to look into it anyways. Do you think it's alright that I didn't tho?

hmm...dont really know. is it impossible for you to check with the univ you're applying? they would give you the best answer.

I've heard of this rule, too, (IB English A1 HL student, too) but I took the TOEFL anyway. If your SAT CR score is high enough, some universities waive TOEFL. As for 4 years of English instruction, you might want to email someone at the admin dept at your prospective uni... A lot of work, but it could cut down on costs so... shrug Up to you.

Another thing I hate is that the Americans usually view "First language" as the language of whatever country you're born in. What if you've been taught in English your entire life and speak English at home, watch English movies and dammit, even think and dream in English?? Shouldn't that blooody count, despite what nationality you are??

Yeah, you'd better contact your unis. But I don't think you need to submit the TOEFL.

Izzy, why do you think Princeton is uptight and conservative? I think it's my favorite school though it's a very high reach : (((

Wow. You're going to apply to Princeton? humbled I didn't mean to demean Princeton. Actually I've done VERY little research on Princeton. Never went to their website or their Livejournal, if they have one. But I wince did a very bad thing and based it upon two alumni I have met. Ex principal and ex-principal's husband. They were quite stodgy and KEPT bringing up their alam mater and their kids (one going to Dartmouth, another to Brown) whenever they could... :( Buuut, they were graduates in 1970's or so, so with the influx of modernity, it could be a cooler place and where graduates aren't so impressed with the name of their alma mater...

there are several Romanians going to Princeton and although the freshmen are very excited, I have learnt some other opinions from older people like:" I'll definetely not do my PhD at Princeton. don't think I could resist another 4 years here." don't really know. a friend of mine(freshman) wrote me an email telling me he's enjoying every second, so I guess it's also about one's personality.

Iv always wanted to visit Romania we r practically neighbors u know. Maybe when I finish my lasttt IB exam and get my license I'll drive over some way :)

well....our country has many cool places to visit and we are renounded for our hospitality..... but besides that.... I don't like it living here.... maybe it would've been different living in a big city...

I liked visiting Sighisoara (spelling?) with its salt mines and the little "village" at the top hill/mountain. Unless I got the name of the town wrong. :|

I've been to Bucharest and Giurgiu (I'm from Ruse and Giurgiu is just across the Danube ;)) and I liked them, though I stayed only 1 day in each. Bucharest is very different from Sofia. Maybe that's why I liked it so much (plus, the Parliament building - it was very beautiful).

IB_Victim, where are you from?

no....you didn't get the name wrong. sighisoara is a very nice medieval town. there's also a quite renouned festival there each year in July.

Whee. I live near the Parliament Building.

We tried organizing a trip to go to the festival summer 2005, but it fell through. :( Would have been a great way to send off the seniors.

I find the Delta a somewhat dead place. But maybe cause our noisy boats scared around the birds and I was with a whole bunch of stodgy old adults.

I've never been to the Delta...though pretty much wanna go. what about the sea side...taken any bath in the Black Sea?

In Bulgaria the seaside is GREAT! The resorts are full of German, former USSR, and sometimes British and Swedish tourists! And some places, especially in the southern part are sooo beautiful! I love swimming in the Black Sea!

yeah I know! :D btw have you heard about Vama Veche, a village right at the border between our countries? it's very well-known here, because it's unspoiled (or...less spoiled than the others....really cool people go there... I too :D )

I haven't, sorry :( I only know the bigger cities + Giurgiu because, as I already mentioned it's very close to my town

oky...not a big deal...was just saying cause it's a very popular place around here :)

only three names here
*Lakshmi...... : ))) ....... Izzy *

Guys u are for sure chillin out all the time here ......chatin goofin ......

We're bonding... Dipole-dipole, hydrogen bonding, intramolecular, intermolecular, Van der Waals... ducks from the rotten tomato and lettuce thrown at me Mi scuzi! Just tryin' to crack a joke here! (I'm lame. Or was it "sad" or "pathetic" as banedon said?)
