I'm choosing beteween AP Economics and AP Spanish next year. I really do want to take Economics, and I hate hate hate Spanish, plus the Spanish teacher is really hard (as in about 3/40 people have As). Do colleges view Economics as a "blow off" AP or will it hold the same amount of weight?

spanish is really hard. i took it jr year and like 3 people in my class passed the ap exam.

AP Econ is probably easier than the sciences pukes, but probably harder than some of the blow-off APs like Human Geo.

agree. (10char)

But from a college's perspective, would taking Econ make it look like I'm just trying to pile on easy AP courses? Or do they consider it a real class?

oh hush. if you want to take econ, take it. stop worrying about adcoms all the time. FYI i took econ this year by studying with a review book the night before.

it was fairly difficult, but not too bad.

I thought bio was easier.

but HG is a joke.

Usually people think econ is really hard or really easy but not in between. It really depends on your perspective and viewpoints.

for me econ was somewhat difficult. That was mainly because my teacher went to school to be a minister and failed the economics class he took in college. All I used was common sense and I did fine though (I think I got a 4 on the AP test)

econ is a joke

I slept through the class, never did any of the work, etc and pulled a 4 on the practice

Watch Sephiroth get a 1 on the AP. hahahaha :D

Lol, i wouldn't care either way =D

I actually took both AP Econ and AP Spanish this year. Although Econ(are you talking about Macro and/or Micro?) is considered easier than some and is shorter, I don't think that colleges look down on it and if you do well you could pass out of an intro level course at college(which you want to do). Also, I had never taken an economics class before and I really liked the class. I would not recommend that you take AP Spanish because it is a pretty hard AP and you really do not want to take an AP exam in a subject you hate. Like Mandolin said, do want you want to. They're both AP courses, which looks good regardless, and it does look good for colleges if you take courses you are interested in and show this interest by doing well.

so is macro harder or easier, because Im signed up for it

don't take a class in a subject you hate as an ap! what a bad idea...

Both AP econs are a breeze. If you have time this summer take one online from APEX and then you can take spanish at school.

I wanted to take AP Economics next year (just the tests) but my school doesn't offer the class. So I signed up for Economics H. But I just got called into my counselor's office yesterday and she told me that they were dropping the class because not enough kids signed up for it (You need at least 20 kids to sign up).

Should I just self-study for Economics? I'm going to be doing independent study for Psychology next year (against my counselor's wishes, she wants me to take the class) and I have a job throughout the year. Should I just leave that period open so I can go home early or take psychology I or just take another class?

My school didn't offer econ, so I dropped lunch and "indepently studied" both courses (micro/macro) during that period. My "advisor" was the GoPo teacher, who knew about 0% of the course, (he couldn't even grade my practice AP free response, with a rubic!) Basically, I'm almost positive I got 5s on both (hate that curve), and now I go a bunch of other kids in my school doing "independent studies" for AP tests next year.

If you get 5s colleges understand that you have mastery of the subject, because those grades are curved. In every AP test there are roughly about the same amount of people (by percentage) who score a 5 or a 4 ect. If you do self-study, try to get it on your transcript that you learned an enitre course by yourself. Makes for a good essay, I think.

It's Principles of Economics (which is both macro and micro) that I'll probably be taking next year. I don't have room for both that and for Spanish, and I really hate Spanish...grrr.

Does anyone have a suggestion in a textbook and/or review book for AP Econ?

Do you think a textbook will really be needed or will a review book be fine?

Yes- Princeton Review is surprisingly good for AP tests. I self studied off of it for AP Gov't and Politics and I'm pretty sure I got a four or a five.

Also- is it a waste of time to self study human geo? I self study for two reason: it looks really good on college apps and the subject matter is very interesting. So basically: do colleges simply ignore human geo? Any suggestions on other interesting self studies other than both econs and politics and government?
