Hello!
I have recently become very intrigued about the possible career of civil engineering. Now, I’ve noticed that many colleges will pair civil engineering with environmental engineering. Would it be good for me to take AP Environmental Science? Or is it just such of a pointless class that it’s not worth my time?
Have you taken Bio, Chem and Physics? And AP Physics?
Are you interested in AP Env? Do you have room for AP Env?
I have taken bio and chem this year (freshman), I will take physics next year (sophomore), then I will take AP Physics C the following year (junior). I was thinking about possibly taking environmental senior year, and yes, I find myself genuinely intrigued with the class subject and scope.
I took APES this past year and it is a really interesting class. The information is beyond easy (coming from someone who got a C in bio, lol). However it is alotttt of busy work, so if you already have a lot of homework I would reconsider taking it. The AP test also has the highest fail rate because there is simply such a broad range of information that the teachers cant cram it all into one year.
If you have bio, chemistry, physics, and AP physics, you can take apes without worry.
Will you take calculus ab as a junior or a sophomore?
Ok, so you’re set
APES is a GREAT class, intended major aside. Take it, no matter how much people tell you the content is just “common sense.” You will love it! I took it as a junior, FYI. I don’t even like science, but I feel like I reaped so many benefits from taking APES.
I’m a senior this year and applied to my college for civil engineering! I took bio, Chem, AP physics 1, and then APES, and I haven’t regretted it for a second. I loved physics last year and almost took physics c this year and am really glad I didn’t.
I learned a lot with a minimal workload, which opened up time for college apps in the fall and spending time with friends in the spring. I’m interested in APES material, so it came really easily to me. Honestly, you don’t even have to be interested to succeed, you just need a basic knowledge of earth science, current events, and astronomy. As for the AP exam, a lot of it is random statistics, but you’ll do fine if you just rule stuff out and make an educated guess. For the short answer, the hardest part is normally doing basic math (without a calculator).
I’d go for it if you’re at all interested in Civil- it’s an interesting class regardless of if you want to go into it, and (at least at my school) certainly earns its reputation as “the easy AP.” It’s been nice to have a lower workload my senior year, so I’d take everything you listed first and then APES!
Thank you all for your input! I think I’ll take it
If you’re interested, take it, but it’s such a blow off class.
