is applied mathematics for me?

hi i'm debating on whether to go into berkeley for applied mathematics. i'm kind of scared of the rigorous math courses that many people say berkeley have. currently i'm a high school senior who's taking ap calc bc and ap physics b. i went through algebra 2 honors during freshman year, and many people, including me, thought that it was a pretty difficult course (and the teacher was known for being the hardest in the entire school). unfortunately, i passed it with a B. D: and then i took regular trig/precal because i got intimidated by that algebra teacher, but the trig/precal course turned out to be extremely easy for me. eventually, i took ap calc ab, which was fairly okay and i got a B during first semester and an A in the second and got a 5 on the exam. now i am taking ap calc bc, which i have a B but could have gotten an A if the teacher didn't give me an F on my homework -_-.

the thing that worries me the most is that I'm struggling in physics B!!!!! I find it pretty difficult, and my grade is always in the high C's. D: i might have a chance to bring it up to a low B by the end of my senior year, but i find myself having a hard time in this class. sure, i get certain topics about mirrors and lenses, and simple magnetisms and quantum theory, but there's a lot of other topics like torques and electricity which i sometimes don't have a good foundation of.

also, what kind of career can i pursue in with just a bachelor degree in applied math?

It will definitely be a difficult program. Though, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. From what you said, this program will probably cause quite a bit of suffering, but again that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.

As to careers you can pursue…that depends on what you do applied mathematics in. You can focus in on so many different areas (say physics, logic, biology, chemistry, statistics, etc) so I can’t really list out the careers that will be specific to each area (actually I could but too lazy).

Best just look at: https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/AppMath.stm

thank you, foraminifera! i kind of expect that i will suffer a bit in the program with my current math experience, but i don’t want it to be so hard that it makes me unmotivated to try to get good grades, which is sort of the case here for me in physics b, but it could be because i’m kind of affected by the spread of senioritis around me.
