I've heard both sides of the story to this. Some people say that applying undeclared is viewed by adcoms as a bad thing, and others say it'll give you the little extra push. So what do you guys think? Is it okay to apply you rmajor as UNDECLARED?

For the college of Letters and Science applying undeclared is ok.
For the college of Engineering applying undeclared engineering is tough to get into.

In general, it's fine. If you have no idea what you want to study, putting down math over physics or philosophy instead of english probably won't get you in. As tambone mentioned, the college in question is important. Applying undeclared to L and S is acceptable, and to them, most students aren't going to end up with what they put down originally. Although if you have some demonstrated interest, they might think you will end up studying the subject. However, this probably won't influence admission to the university.

Thanks, I'm asking mainly for the College of Natural Resources. Can anyone help?

I was wondering about this too -- would it be a disadvantage to apply as a physics major to L&S? Since Berkeley is famous for physics I think it might be more competitive. But I've also heard that since I'm a girl, writing down physics will give me an edge.

Nope, any major you choose within the College of Letters and Science will not matter.
