Majors for UC - undeclared / undecided?

is it bad to apply undeclared/undecided?
will applying undeclared/undecided affect your chances at admission?
thanks.

Naw. it's fine. I heard that they sometimes only accept a certain amount of ppl per major but for undecided there's no limit. So yah, good luck!

thanks. can anyone confirm?

I don't know about admission-wise, but all my friends at UC's told me to NEVER pick undeclared.

Accorindg to Berkeley, choice of major doesn't matter in College of Letters and Science, but Engineering undeclared has tougher competition.

thanks. any other opinions?

Hmm, I would like to know too. I also want to apply undeclared to all my UCs, but I'm scared it'll affect admissions. Can they only take a limited number of Und. studnets?

I can only speak for Berkeley, but I'm pretty sure that the rest of the UCs are like this too.

Admissions people like undeclared students because they like the idea of "discovering yourself" in college, and figuring out what you want to do then. For Berkeley, you are not going to be harmed nor helped by putting "undeclared" on your apps, as far as college of Letters and Sciences goes. Do know that if you apply to Letters and Sciences undeclared, you are only allow to declare other L&S majors, which rules out engineering, etc.

What about for Haas because you do submit yourself as Undeclared-CLS for that? Will putting just Undeclared-CLS (without the Haas part) screw up my future chances for Haas? Thanks.

Ray is correct for Letters & Sciences at all campuses. Colleges know that many kids change their major 2-3 times over four years, so they aren't concerned with what you put down, unless you list Math and show a 450 on the SAT math section.

You must, however, list Engineering or Chemistry schools if that's where you want to matriculate. It is virtually impossible to transfer into the College of Engieering from L&S.

You can only apply to Haas during Soph year, so undeclared (or econ or poli sci or anything) is fine for L&S.
