This question has come up in a number of threads, but I haven’t seen a consensus or enough discussion to get a clear picture. The MT program sounds fantastic at BW…is there much or any integration with the BA Acting students? Can Acting students audition for musicals? Do they get in? What is life like for BA performers?

Any current BW acting students or their parents out there who could speak to this? Thanks!

Hi there. BW has a fantastic Department of Theatre and Dance, that compliments and integrates nicely with the MT major. Both departments work closely, and all auditions for plays and musicals are open to any BW student. The University has a strong commitment to the arts and our theatre, dance and music theatre productions are quite popular in Northern Ohio. The theatre program is focused on new works and Shakespeare, and the dance program is cutting edge that provides strong training for minors and MTs. Most faculty teach, direct and design for both departments, and the students interact socially, in productions, and in classes. All MTs are required to take many classes within the department of theatre and dance, and Professors Bussert and Plate teach courses within the Department of Theatre and Dance. It’s a model of collaborative excellence, and a marvelous school to attend. Check out our website and Facebook page for more information.

Thank you, BW. This helps a lot!

Ok, one more thing… Do I understand correctly that the BA Acting/Directing Track does not require an audition? On the Baldwin-Wallace website there is audition info for the MT BM, but not for straight theater. thanks!

You are correct; there is no audition/interview required to for the theatre major in any of the concentrations. It’s an open enrollment, and anyone may declare a major or minor in theatre or minor in dance.
